8 The Dallas Post Dallas, PA Wednesday, June 26, 1991 COMMUNITY Historical Society arts and crafts fair slated for July 6 The Wyoming County Historical Society will sponsor its 14th an- nual Arts and Crafts Fair on Sat- urday, July 6, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., according to Mark Mitchell, Society president. This year, due to courthouse expansion, the sale will be held at the Tunkhannock High School athletic field, but the outstanding crafts and delicious food will be the same. There will be over 140 exhib- itors, a baby contest, entertain- ment throughout the day and a raffle of many handmade crafts. The food available will be hot sau- sage, hot dogs, wimpies, ham barbecue, chili dogs, chili, fruit cup, homemade pies, funnel cake, snow cones and varied drinks. The entrance to the field is off Route 6, Tunkhannock, six blocks west of the traffic light, at the entrance road to the high school, next to Mr. Donut. There will be parking accommodations for ex- hibitors and patrons. The Tunkhannock High School will be used in case of rain. Arrangements for the craft show are under the leadership of Jean Brewer, Paul Miller, Ruth Green- ley, Katherine Stevens and Louis Cavalier. Century warns of problems with its infant car seats Century Products Company would like to bring to your atten- tion this important safety message concerning your 3000 STE or 5000 STE child car seat. / These car seats have both rear- ward and forward latching posi- tions. It has come to our attention that the instructions accompany- ing seats sold before January 1, 1991, do not advise the owner when to switch from the rear posi- tion to the forward position. The failure of the instructions to in- clude this advice constitutes a noncompliance with Federal Mo- tor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 213. For all owners ofa Century 3000 STE and 5000 STE car seat mod- els: 4353GD, 4365DT, 4365MC, 4366BH, 4368BH, 4450GD, 4460DT, 4460FE, 4470MC, 4475GA and 4475GU, please be advised that Century Products has modified its instructions for the 3000 STE and 5000 STE owners to switch to the forward latching position when your child reaches the weight of 30 pounds (13 kg.). Century recommends that a par- ent switch the latch positions sooner if the child's size and com- fort warrants. Century Products wishes to alert the owner that failure to switch to the forward position for a child weighing 30 pounds (13 kg.) or more could result in difficult latch releasing after an automobile acci- dent. As of January 1, 1991, the in- struction booklets reflect the 30 pound clarification. Both Century Products and the National High- way Traffic Safety Administration urge you to order your modified instruction booklet now so that it is available for future use of your car seat. Please call 1-800-336- - 8844 and indicate whether you own a 3000 STE or 5000 STE. In the event you feel Century Products Company has not | promptly responded to your re- quest for new instructions, you may submit a complaint to the Administrator, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 4000 Seventh Street, SW,. Washington DC 20590 or call the toll-free Auto Safety Hotline at 1-800-424-9393 (Washington, DC, area residents may call 366-0123). The event is jointly sponsored by the Wyoming Historical and Geological Society and the 24th Connecticut Militia, 1st Independent Company. A full schedule of activities are designed to take the visitor back in time. Approximately 200 reenac- tors from eight states, dressed in authentic 18th century costumes will set up camp on the grounds, demonstrate Colonial camplife activities, and reenact the Battle of Wyoming. The camp will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on July 6, and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 7. Tours of the Swetland Homestead will be conducted from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. A skirmish betwee American and Crown forces will bi held at 2 p.m. on Saturday with the Battle of Wyoming being staged on Sunday at 2 p.m. The Battle of Wyoming , or “Wyomiing Massacre” as it came to be called, took place on July 3, 1778, about a mile from the Swet- land Homestead. The Battle was the main military action in this region during the Revolutionary War and its tragic outcome shocked the world and resulted in Sulli- van's March to destroy the Indian inhabitants of Northeastern Penn- sylvania and portions of New York. A souvenir booklet describing the Battle will be available at the Encampment. The production of the book along with other volun- teer activities have been under- taken by Charles Wasserott V of Boy Scout Troop 281 in Dallas, as his Eagle Scout service project. Tickets for the Encampment include admission to the camp, battle and a tour of the Swetland Homestead and may be purchased at the site on the day of the event. Cost is $3.00 for adults, and $1.00 for children under 12. Children under 5 are admitted free of charge. For additional information, contact the Wyoming Historicaland Geological Society, 823-6244.
