The program is also designed to help bring parents and teachers together, to provide families with assistance in learning effective parenting methods, and to hold workshops to assist teachers: in working with families. : “The district has been receiving information regularly on the pro- gram on learning resources for young children, curriculum for pre- school children, special funding by the department, language de- velopment, community helpers, need for quality programs, and many more,” explained Davis. “Lake-Lehman is already set up for such a program with our full day kindergarten and the district can also adopt a half-day program. The Early Childhood Program in- cludes such things as reading to the children, teaching them to lis- ten, teaching them art, dexterity, and getting them ready to learn,” Davis explained. To help fund the programs for young children, the state will re- vise the formula it uses, shifting money from secondary levels. “The governor's budget will take the current 1.36 weight from the secondary student and cut it back to 1.0 in funds and increase the weight to 1.36 for the elementary students.
