Barbara Campbell, a sophomore at Lake-Lehman High School rep- resented her school at the Central Pennsylvania Leadership Seminar held in Lancaster County, May 16- 19. The seminar took place at Millersville University in Mill- ~ ersville, Pa. The purpose of the seminar is to provide leadership training to sophomores who show leadership potential. In addition, the seminar exposes the students to leaders in the world of business, the arts, ~ education, and the professions, and encourages the students to question and learn during the in- ~ tense sessions. Student Ambassadors were taken to the State House of Repre- sentatives where they practiced the process of passing bills through the legislature. Campbell particpates in leadership seminar BARBARA CAMPBELL Lehman earns scholarship to Free Enterprise Week Eric Lehman, son of James and ~ Donna Lehman, junior at Dallas ~ High School, has been granted a ~ full scholarship to attend Pennsyl- ~ vania Free Enterprise Week '91 on the campus of Lycoming College, ‘Williamsport, Pa. | Pennsylvania Free Enterprise Week is a week long, national award-winning, economic educa- tion program offering students and teachers an inside look at the pri- ~ vate enterprise system and how the free market functicns. Lehman will attend one of the three one-week sessions offered this summer. A total of 850 stu- ~ dents and 50 teachers from across the Commonwealth have received scholarships, which cover the cost of room, board, materials, and scheduled activities. Funds for scholarships are contributed by ‘businesses or community organi- zations on a county by county basis. Student candidates must have completed either their sophomore or junior year, must demonstrate 7 leadership qualities, have a sin- cere interest in an intense and challenging business schedule, ERIC LEHMAN participate in a variety of scholas- tic and extracurricular activities and be recommended by their high school principal. Dallas High School art exhibit set for May 31 Students from the Dallas Senior High School art classes will pres- ent their annual art exhibit at the Dallas High School on Friday, May 31, from 7 to 9 p.m. Admission and refreshments are free. This year’s exhibit is dedicated to the return of the troops from the Persian Gulf. The students have constructed a 35-foot mural in the school cafeteria depicting The Gulf War. The ceiling of the cafeteria is adorned with red, white and blue mobiles done in a patriotic theme. The art works displayed are in excess of 900 pieces including pencil drawings, ink sketches, tempra illustrations, watercolors, pastels, mobiles, tissue collage, colored pencil and marker illus- trations, scratchboard drawings, design work and acrylic paintings. The subject matter for the works are grouped in more than 38 cate- gories. The exhibit will be juried by Mrs. Nancy Hontz, Dallas Middle School Art Instructor, Mrs. Debra Bayer, Art substitute for Dallas High and Miss Heather Fazzi, a former art student from Dallas, who will be graduating this year from Moore College of Art. Many art works which were winners at regional scholastics will be on display. The art work, which was all completed in the art classes of the school, was done under the in- struction of Mrs. Jane Walzak and Steve Kashenbach. An added attraction to this year’s art exhibit will be a display of projects done by the industrial arts students, under the supervision of Mr. Craig Good, temporary indus- trial arts instructor. Dallas students take part in John Hopkins talent search Recently five seventh grade students from the Dallas Middle School participated in the annual Johns Hopkins Talent Search. This program looks for exceptional math and/or verbal reasoning abilities among seventh grade students. The participants were required to take the Scholastic Aptitude Test, a test that measures the abilities of coliege bound high school juniors and seniors. In recognition of their performance Johns Hopkins presented certificates of distinction to Connor Ennis, Lisa Lynch, Robert Lorah, Kevin Rogers and Natalie Felten.
