DENMON Staff Writer + Mrs. Donald (Gini) Scavone of Oak Hill in Dallas is one mom for whom Mothers’s Day is a reminder of her good fortune to have a wonderful child and a fulfilling career. .-Gini said her three-year-old daughter Alysa, also is looking forward to Mother's Day this Sun- day. “We are going to spend the day with Don's (her husband) family at their home in Mooretown. Alysa loves to go to their home and spend the day with her grandparents, their other children and grand- children. She enjoys having people around her,” said Gini. Gini, like many parents today, is a working mother. She has been employed by Barre Engraving for 15 years as a secretary, working Monday through Friday. “I have no regrets or problems with working,” said Gini. “When Don and I were married, I decided to return to work if I had children, so when Alysa was born my boss was very cooperative and gave me time off for her first year. When I was ready to go back to work, I felt that day care would be the answer ardenrolled Alysa inone. After the first week I knew that wouldn't’ work soI decided to look for a baby sitter. “I began looking through the papers and I came across an ad that read a former day care direc- tor would take care of several chil- dren in her home. Gini said that working has done both Alysa and her good. “Alysa is more outgoing than most only children, and she is less dependent on me or her dad, and my working is good for me. [ get out of the’house and see other people and when I get home my daughter and I spend a lot of time together and we do a lot of things together. “In addition to working full time, I do all of the work in our home, and prepare all of our meals.” Alysa said in order to enjoy her ‘family and her home it is neces- sary to have a routine. Her hus- band works away much of the time and many days she said she is up at5a.m. doing some of the laundry and other work. “When I come home from work, Alysa and I spend a lot of time together doing chores such as setting the table, clearing the table, b) FLEA MARKET COMMITTEE - Members of the Gate of 4eaven Altar and Rosary Society Flea Market Committee are above, seated from left, Ruth Farris, president and honorary chairman; Mary Lou Stahovec, chairperson; standing Rev. We sometimes put a load of clothes in the washer and when it is niceoutside Alysa helps me with planting flowers such as tulip bulbs. “In the early evening I read to her, play games, or go to dance class on Tuesday evenings,” Gini explained. Gini gives a lot of credit to her daughter's baby sitter, who has taught her discipline as well as other things such as courtesy and respect. “My day’s work in the office is over at 4 p.m. so that gives me more time to spend together with Alysa. When her dad is home on weekends, he spends a lot of time with Alysa, or the three of us spend a lot of time together. We don't go places unless they are places that Alysa can go, too. “Many of my friends say Alysa and I do more things and spend more time together than many mothers who don't work. I guess it's because we make good use of the time we spend together. We seldom watch television because we have so many other interesting things we do together.” Gini said they also enjoy com- Day is special for this working mom and her daughter pany and have a lot of visitors, especially on weekends when her father comes to visit from Camp Hilland friends and other relatives come for dinner or for the evening. “l always prepare everything for our guests and I enjoy doing it,” Gini said. “My mother died when my younger sister and I were the only two at home with my dad. I felt RA thatIwas the onewho should take over doing things in the home for = my sister and my dad. I believe I inherited that from my mother because she always seemed todo everything so easily and so natu- rally.” Gini Scavone’s love for her daughter is apparent as she looks at Alysa while she is talking, in the way she touches the ribbon in Alysa’s hair. Alysa’s love for her momr is evident in the way she smiles at her, the way she makes herself comfortable on Gini's lap and how she talks about the day she spent with the sitter. “Working has done us both good,” Gini repeated. “We become closer with one another with each passing day, as we do more and more things together. Mother's Day is every day in our home. Alys makes it that,” said Gini.
