She worked smoothly with the other crews, who also were braving the cold water to The crews found an opening and ulled the man out of the sub- rged car and onto the boat dock ere paramedics and ambulance rsonnel immniediately began Cardiopulmanary Resusitation erg those in the water, the job asn't done. Now they had to see if there were others in the car. This “is not always easy, especially en the car is submerged in chilly winter water. To help, divers from the Luzerne County Emergency Services Divi- ion have arrived and were gearing p to search the area. Meanwhile, on the dock, the CPR continued as medical personnel ontacted the hospital and prepared o transport the patient. The members worked as one, ach doing a specified job. The work was fast, furious and complete as the medics and ambulance people battled to find a heartbeat on the victim. : No one was exactly sure how the car came to be in the lake; what was, known was that the man had to be saved, and everyone did what they could. On shore, the police were com- municating with the firemen about some of the other areas of an emer- gency scene that are often over- looked by the spectators who had gathered to watch the. incident unfold. : ‘The equipment needed was sent to the paramedics while the rescu- ers who went into the water were covered with blankets to keep warm. Some police officers cleared a path through all the vehicles on scene to give the ambulance the quickest way out of the area, while other police officers handled crowd control. Everyone continued to look to- wards the crew administering CPR with hopes that there would be some sign of life. DENMON Staff Writer Louise Kondracki, chairperson of the Back Mountain Daffodil Days, said over the weekend that, orders for 2,348 bunches have been turned in for delivery to businesses and schools this week. “Commonwealth Telephone Company did a fantastic job,” said Kondracki. “Between their two buildings, they took orders for 388 bunches. “As always, the Dallas Senior High School Honor Society did a marvelous job, placing orders for 178 bunches under the supervi- sion of their advisor Margaret Johnson, with some more orders to come in. “The Trucksville United Meth- odist Church School placed or- ders for 144 bunches,” Kondracki said. Bank offices in the Back Moun- tain will have a direct sale of the daffodils on Friday, March 22 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The flowers will be available at Merchant's Bank in Shavertown, and at Franklin First Federal, First Eastern Bank, United Penn Bank and Northeast- ern Bank in Dallas. The Lake- Lehman Junior High School Soci- ety students will man the sale after school in the banks. Daring’'s Market and Hillside Dairy Store will sell the daffodils Thursday and Friday. “There were other schools and businesses that did a good job with orders in the Back Mountain this year,” said Kondracki. “Col- lege Misericordia turned in 100 orders, Encon had orders for 77, Offset Paperback 60, Westmore- land Elementary 60, St. Paul's STUDENTS INCREASE SALES - Members of Dallas High School National Honor Society increased their Daffodil Days sales this year by more than $200. Members of the Sarah Circle of Shavertown United Methodist TRYING THEIR BEST - Emergency personnel were unsuccessful in attempting to revive Leo Edwards of Harveys Lake after his car plunged into the lake March 19. (Post Photo/Richard Johnson) would turn out all right. As the victim was put into the ambulance and rushed to the hos- pital, the emergency crews left at the scene knew the hardest part was over but there was still more to be done. More divers arrived at the scene to check the area, while fire and ambulance crews packed away the gear. Police continued the search of the car in an attempt to find identi- fication of the victim. He was found to be Leo Edwards, of Carpenter Road in the borough. Some of the personnel may have known him, others not, but it is obvious through their efforts that they did everything they could for the man. A spokesperson from Nesbitt Hospital reported Tuesday after- noon that Edwards died as a result of the accident. Officials also say that the cause of the crash, which brought every- one out to do a job they probably wished they didn't have todo, is still under investigation. Church will deliver the daffodils Wednesday, Thursday and Fri- day. Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts supervised by Jamie Kozemko will assist in the wrapping of the flow- ers. Mrs. Judi Lipski and Mrs. Sis Ertley were in charge of coord inat- ing the volunteers. “The good thing about the Daf- fodil Days,” said Kondracki, “is that most of the money is used locally by the Cancer Society.” Saving of the Green St. Patrick’s Day Sale WINDOW SHADES; 7 RR ER a Rat “zesNse=mase=s-sssweeresid 37/4 inches by 6 feet, white vinyl, room darkening shade Regularly $19.99 Sale $9.50 Priced at WHOLESALE WINDOW SHADE DISTRIBUTORS inc. 373 High Street : (Corner of High & Blackman Street) 'Wilkes-Barre, Pa. 18701 Open Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. * 824-5733 i Spring Fashions Are Arriving ON ab orl | | ousSo 04 E.
