Robinson, and Bill Williams. Wiliams. ‘Music Box presents ‘Mame’ starting Thursday The Music Box Players begins its celebration of 10 years of Theatre Excellence with a new production of the hit musical: Mame. First presented in February of 1986, this 1964 Jerry Herman Musical was an immense success with local audiences, as it had been on Broadway 20 years before. The musical was a multiple-Tony Award winner and established both Angela Lansbury and Beatrice Arthur as major stars. Based on a best selling biographical novel by Patrick Dennis, Auntie Mame, and the non-musical play of the same title by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee, Mame is a lively, hilarious, and tuneful recounting of the life and times of Mame Dennis, fun loving, big-hearted toast of the New York social set. Her nephew, Patrick, comes to live with her after his father's death, and immediately she “opens new windows” for him and teaches him to live life to the fullest. Mame begins an extended 4 week run on Valentine's Day, and continues performances on February 15 to 17, 21 to 24, and February 28, March 1 to 3 and March 7 to 9. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday performances begin at 8 p.m. the cash bar opens at 6 p.m., dinner is served at 6:30. On Sunday matinees, the bar opens at 1:30, dinner at 2 and curtain is 3:15 p.m. Playing the role of Mame Dennis is Debbie Zehner of Moun- taintop, reprising the role she played in the 1986 Music Box production. Also reviving her 1986 role is Beverly Brennan, playing actress Vera Charles, Mame's best friend. Young Patrick will be played by 10-year-old Jeff Sedon, and Betsy Henderson will play the dowdy, frumpy nanny, Agnes Gooch. Other principal roles are: Sam Troy as Beauregard Jackson Pickett Burnside, Bob Hensley as Dwight Babcock, John Kennedy as older Patrick, Francis C. McMullen as Lindsay Woolsey, E.T. Goman and Evelyn Tomasovic as Mr. and Mrs. Upson, Judy Fried as Mother Burnside, Ted Anderson as Ito, Mame'’s houseboy, Jennifer Rogers as Gloria Upson and Ellen O'Brien as Pegeen.
