Foster Grandparent program seeks n The Foster Grandparent Pro- gram started 19 years ago in Luzerne County, placing low-in- come senior citizens with handi- capped and special needs children. “Foster grandparenting is an idea that seems to get better with age,” said Mary Lou Perez-Zerfoss, who directs the activities of more than 80 seniors serving young people at the Lake-Noxen Elementary School and Dallas Elementary L.I.U. class- room, to name a few assignments. Marie McCoog, a Foster Grand- parent for one year, agrees with many of the other grandparents that the four hours a day spent with the children benefits them as much as the children they tend. “I'm learning a lot from the chil- dren and I love being with them,” says McCoog who serves as a Foster ‘Grandparent at the Dallas Ele- mentary L.1.U. “When the children do well then I feel delighted and proud of them,” she continued. Lastyear, McCoog and the other Foster Grandparents volunteered more than 79,000 hours under the Skyhaven Pilots elect officers Saturday, Feb. 2, the Skyhaven Pilots Association met at the home of Steve and Barb Gay. President Dick Harding conducted the elec- tion of officers for the upcoming year. Elected were: President, Ed Whipple; Vice president, Bruce Gardner; Secretary, Barb Gay; Treasurer, Harold Harding. Reports were given on the very successful bus trip to Spring Hill, Maryland - the “attic” (site for re- building and restoration) of the National Air and Space Museum of the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C. : Also discussed were the status of the planned paving of the Skyhaven Airport runway, apron and taxiways, as well as an upcom- ing fly-in/drive-in breakfast to be held on June 2, 1991. All are in- vited to attend this breakfast, as well as consider membership in the Skyhaven Pilot's Association, which meets monthly at the airport.
