Mooneys celebrate their silver anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Mooney, Dallas, recently celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary. They were married on August 21, 1965 in St. Joseph's Church, Newton, New Jersey. Mrs. Mooney is the former Mary Ellen Donahoe of Tranquility, New Jersey. The couple have four children, Matthew, Mrs. David (Meghan) Schreffler, Clarks Summmit, Melanie and Michael. The church will hold a Centen- nial Banquet and Historical Pro- ~ gram at the Irem Temple Country Club on Friday evening, Septem- ber 7 at 6:30 P.M. Bishop James Mase Ault, retired former spiritual leader of the Wyoming Conference of the United Methodist Church, will be guest of honor at a Centen- nial Concert on September 8 at 8 ~ p.m., presented by Ensembles from the Wilkes University Department of Music, Theater and Dance, di- ~ rected by Jerome Cample, depart- mental head. Preceding the concert, Bishop Ault will dedicate the new Dr. Malcolm J. Borthwick Memorial Historical Room during a recep- tion at 7 p.m. On Sunday, Septem- ber 9, at the 11 a.m. Worship Service, the Bishop will be the preacher. The Rev. William B. Lawrence, Wilkes-Barre Superin- tendent will also participate. Music will be presented by the Festival, Children’s and Handbell Choirs, under the direction of Ros Santos, Barbara Zarambo, and Peggy Knavich. Pastors James A. Wert and Harriet L. Santos, will be liturgists. Having been chartered in March, 1890, with 15 members who first met in local homes and later in a village schoolhouse, the congrega- tion has grown until today it numbers over 1,100 with two full- time pastors. The church's original brick structure at the corner of West Center Street and Pioneer Avenue was constructed to replace a white wooden structure. In 1960, the brick building was doubled in size anda new brick educational build- : ing was added. The congregation continues to grow along with the rapid popula- tion increase in this suburban area. The church ministers, not only to its membership but also to the surrounding community. It is the center for Red Cross Blood Collec- tions, Boy and Girl Scout Units, a TOUGHLOVE support group, an Alzheimer’s support group, an Al- anon meeting, Little League regis- tration sessions, and sponsorship ofresidents of alocal nursing home. The church is a part of the VISION program, housing the homeless in a shelter several times during the year. Mrs. Spaciano is a member of St. Therese’s Church, Shavertown. Her husband Sam passed away in 1985. She has four children living: Anne with whom she re- sides; Louis of Trucksville; Faldie Skameritz of Berwick and Vincent of Levittown, Pa. Deceased chil- dren are Victor Spaciano and Yo- landa Kucavich.
