Elias of Orange, the author of “The Shy Nude,” has just re- ceived word that he will be able to make a videotape of Battle of Brit- ain pilots at the Air Crew Associa- tion Convention. The convention will be held September 28 and 29 in Southport, England. Mr. Elias received word last week from Squadron Leader Peter C. Crouch, Chairman of the ACA, that arrangements would be made to have Battle of Britain pilots alerted for the taping. The Air Crew Asso- ciation is an organization of air crew members of Allied Air Forces who served in World War II, and has 11,000 members worldwide. At the last convention, members came from Australia, New Zeal- and, South Africa, Jordan, Spain, North Africa and the United States. The 50th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain is being celebrated this year. Fifty years ago, Hitler was riding a crest of victories, and he sent his Air Force to bomb Britain into submission. The Brit- ish had only a few squadrons battle ready to oppose thousands of Hitler's planes. The British Fighter pilots had to fly sometimes three times a day to meet the Nazi planes, and they had a terrible attrition rate. But they fought gallantly, bringing down Nazi planes every day. Finally, Hitler gave up and postponed an invasion of England because he could not get air supe- riority. Winston Churchill gave the Air Force pilots the supreme com- pliment when he said, “Never was so much owed to so few.” In addition to meeting with Senator John Heinz, III, Senator Arlen Specter, and Representative Paul Kanjorski, Thomas partici- pated in a “Mock Congress on National Service.” During this ac- tivity, the students assumed the roles of U.S. representatives by debating, lobbying and voting on proposed volunteer service legisla- tion. A 1990 graduate of Dallas High School, Thomas will be attending Lynchburg College in Lynchburg, Virginia, in the fall where he plans on pursuing a Bachelor of Science *HARVEYS LAKE, PA 639-1264 legendary *REHOBOTH BEACH, DEL. degree.
