8 The Dallas Post Dallas, PA Wednesday, August 8, 1990 PEOPLE FERNE SORBER SMITH Open House August 18 for Ferne Sorber Smith The family and friends of Ferne ~ Sorber Smith are invited to join her on her 80th birthday, August 18 from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. The gathering will be held at the home of her eldest daughter, Mrs. Cliff Birdsall (Faye), 703 Ransom Road, Dallas. Ferne is the daughter of the late Claude and Grace Brown Sorber of Sorber Mountain. There are eight brothers and sisters living in the area and will be joining their sister to observe her birthday. One sis- ‘ter, Lamona, and a brother, Robert are deceased. & Ferne is the wife of the late Daniel Smith and the mother of four children. The eldest, Carl, lives in Ruggles with his wife, Anna Mae. Fay and her husband, Cliff live in Dallas. Daniel Jerry lives in the Pocono’s, and Connie and her husband, Jack Baradziej live in Bristol. Ferne's 30 grandchildren and great-grandchildren grace the states of Ohio, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Mary- land and Pennsylvania. Ferne is an active member of the Ruggles Methodist Church. She is also a charter member of the Har- veys Lake Women's Service Club. Call 675-5211 for details f Parishioners volunteer pastoral care Sixteen members of the Back Mountain's Gate of Heaven Parish were recently commissioned to serve as pastoral care companions and Eucharistic ministers for the Sisters of Mercy who make their home at Mercy Center, Dallas. The ceremony was conducted in Mercy Center's Blessed Sacrament Chapel by Father Frank Kulig, chaplain. Sister Regis Mary McEnrue, RSM, director of pastoral care, now has a staff including sister visitors and lay volunteers. Staff members make daily visits in Mercy Center. Dallas Women's Club elects officers Jean Hillard of Harveys Lake was elected president of the Dallas Federated Women's Club for 1990- 91. The theme for this year is “Illu- minate the Past - Ignite the Fu- ture”. Hillard has chosen Literacy as her President's Project. The club supports education by awarding scholarships to deserving Back Mountain residents each year and supports the Back Mountain Li- brary. The main fund raisers are a talent auction, a pretzel sale, and a progressive dinner. While attending the school, Sean took the Vocational Curriculum majoring in electricity.
