Blood drive scheduled at Meadows Nursing Center The Meadows Nursing Center, 55 West Center Hill Road, Dallas, will hold an American Red Cross Blood Drive at the Center on Wednesday, Aug. 1 from 1-6 p.m. in the All-Purpose Room, 1st floor, with a goal of 50 units. In Northeastern Pennsylvania _only three people out of every 100 donates blood, supporting the needs of 1.5 million residents, al- though most people are eligible to do so. Choral music workshop to at Gifts From Above, Sept. 15 Word Music, Sparrow Star Song, Zondervan and Alexandria House will present “Choral Music Unlim- ited”, a workshop of new holiday music for church choir directors and music ministers. Area students to participate in Shakespeare theater workshop The magic and poetry of Wil- liam Shakespeare's romantic fan- tasy “The Tempest” will come to life at College Misricordia July 19- 22, with a professional director and cast from Washington, D.C. presenting a musical production of William Shakespeare's final play. Area high school and college students will have the opportu- nity to study Shakespearean the- atre with those professionals when they take part in College Miseri- cordia’s first theatre workshops, presented in conjunction with Theatre-On-The-Green's produc- tion. Students from Myers, Wyoming Area, Dallas, Bishop Hoban, Coughlin, Wyoming Seminary, and Lake-Lehman high schools, Wilkes University, Elizabethtown College and Randolph-Macon Women's College also will learn about set construction, lighting, makeup and other theatre skills. The workshops will provide the students with a valuable educa- tional experience, said Diane Ushinski, chair of the Theatre- On-The Green committee. One workshop is intended for high school seniors and college students who will work as pro- duction assistants. The other is for less experienced high school students. Six students, recommended by _ their high school drama coaches, will serve as production assistants to director Jim Petosa, artistic director of the National Players, and the cast and crew. In this workshop, coordinated by Dallas Area High School drama director Don Hopkins, the students will work closely with Petosa for hands- on experience with sets, costumes, props and other aspects of profes- sional theatre. David Stout, associate profes- sor of English at Luzerne County Community College and a mem- ber of last year's Theatre-On-The Green cast, will coordinate the second workshop, open to area high school students grades 9-12. This activity will give students a ‘chance to learn all aspects of the- atre and will include instruction on voice, gestures and movements.
