| i i | 10 The Dallas Post Dallas, PA Wednesday, July 4, 1990 PEOPLE Nine graduates honored by Harveys Lake Women's Club The Harveys Lake Women's Service Club recently honored nine young women from Lake-Lehman High School as Oustanding Women of the Year. Dr. Karen Boback presented the seniors with bracelets and honored them at the Harveys Lake Women's Serv- ice Club at the club's first commu- nity night. Dr. Boback said, “These young ladies are fine examples of the accomplishments women in the 90's should expect for them- selves and their daughters. It is not enough to just complete re- quired courses and graduate and hope to compete in today’s world. We must strive to excel in all our endeavors. We can compete with the best and these women have our admiration for achievement beyond the minimum required. We are proud to honor them and to present them to our community as our hope of the future.” Recipients of the awards are: Molly White, daugher of Joseph and Anne White of Harveys Lake. Ms. White plays clarinet in the Lake-Lehman Concert Band and a Drum Major in the Marching . Band. She is active in field hockey and basketball. She is a “Peer Helper” president of student coun- cil, plays piano in the Jazz Band and is president of the Jazz Band. After graduation she plans to at- tend the University of Pennsylva- nia in Philadelphia and major in communications. Robin Pavlik is the daughter of ~ Albert and Michele Pavlick of Hunlock Creek. She is a senior class treasurer, a member of the National Honor Society and the Junior National Honor Society. Ms. Pavlick is a basketball cheer- leader and a member of the 4-H Club. After graduation she intends to pursue equestrian studies in college. Becki Emelett is the daughter of Leonard and Evelyn Emelett of Lake Silkworth. Among her school activities are field hockey, school newspaper, chorus and student council. Ms. Emelett is a member of the National Honor Society and enjoys piano, painting and skiing. After graduation, Ms. Emelett will major in biology in college. Nicole Gardner is the daughter of Robert and Priscilla Gardner of KIM VOLLRATH Harveys Lake. Among her school activities are Key Club, Bulletin Editor of the Key Club of Pennsyl- vania, Community Theater, cheer- leading, track and student news- paper. Ms. Gardner has been named to Who's Who of American High School Students and The National Honor Society. After graduation she will major in Eng- lish at Penn State. Heather Salko is the daugher of Eugene and Sandra Salkoof Chase. Ms. Salko has been named toWho's Who of American High School Students and The National Honor Society and Student of the Quarter of the Lake Silkworth Lions Club and the 1990 Jr. Leadership Class of Wilkes-Barre. School activities include field hockey, the yearbook staffand peer tutoring. After gradu- ation Ms. Salko will major in Eng- lish or biology in college. Michele Lankwarden is the daughter of Hans and Colleen Lankwarden of Lehman. Her high school activities include field hockey, co-editor of the yearbook, basketball and football cheer- leader, student council. Ms. Lankwarden is also vice president of the Trinity United Presbyterian Church of Dallas Youth Group and has been named to Who's Who of American High School Students and The National Honor" Society. After graduation, Ms. Lankwarden Oravitz earns theatre award Lehigh University’s Department of Theatre recently awarded prizes to seven students for their out- standing contributions to Lehigh University Theatre. John Oravitz, class of 1990, a mechanical engineering major/ theatre minor from Dallas, was named Outstanding Theatre Stu- dent. : The award, established by the Department of Theatre in 1986, honors a student “who has shown a commitment to academic excel- lence in the theatre classroom, and whose co-curricular production work has been judged artistically and/or technically superior.” Oravilz designed lighting for “Agnes of God,” and was assistant lighting designer for “Aunt Dan and Lemon.” He maintained a 4.0 average in theatre classes, worked as a scene shop asdistant, and was electrician for “Life is a Dream,” “Moonchildren,” “Our Town,” and’ “The Tempest.” Hall graduates cum laude from Drexel University Jeffrey B. Hall, son of Fritz and JoAnn Hall of Dallas, recently graduated cum laude from Drexel University with a degree in Com- merce and Engineering. Jeff has been at Drexel for five years in a work-study program. While working for IBM in Manas- sas, Virginia, during his last co- op, he was named to Outstanding Young Men of America by a fellow coworkers. He received the Wall Street Journal Award, the Man- agement Achievement Award in Operations Management and was named to Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society while at Drexel. He also received the Foundry Educa- tional Foundation Scholarship as well as the Ingersoll Rand Scholar- ship this past year. Her school activities include captain of the field hockey team, a goalie in soccer, student council vice president, president Clarks Summit. Huntsville Nursery wins Award of Excellence The Award of Excellence was presented to Huntsville Nursery by the Pennsylvania Nurserymen's Associaton for the landscaping of the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Novick of Clarks Summit. Projects were submitted from member firms from across the state. Each project submitted was judged on design, plant and mate- rial selection, color, workmanship and maintenance.
