Wilson also said that similar ordinances have been approved in the past and were not enforceable. The council did give approval for the purchase of a Vascar system for the police department. Vascar isa monitoring device used to check the speed of motor vehicles. Councilman Ed Kelly said that the system will be purchased within the next month and the police department can begin using it soon after. “We were looking into getting aradar, but it was not approved by the state House so we went with Vascar,” said Kelly. The cost of the system is around $3,000, which Kelly says is fair. “We really can't bid something like this because there is really only one company that you can deal with for this equipment,” he said. Also at the meeting, Florence Schultz of Hillside Avenue asked the council if anything was going to be done about some of the build- ings in the borough that were fall- ing apart. Councilman David Abod said that borough was going to apply for grants from the Depart- ment of Environmental Resources Extra Lake boat slips won't be charged and the Department of Commu- nity Affairs to get funds for demo- lition work. The council will also be advertising for bids to tear down by approximately 18 properties in the borough.
