(Bucky) Buchman, of Harris Hill Road, Trucksville, died June 22, 1990 in the Nesbitt Memorial Hospital, Kingston shortly after admission. Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late Isaac and Anna Lally Buchman. He resided in Wyoming for eight years, prior tomoving to Trucksville in 1979. Mr. Buckman was em- ployed for 15 years by Marvel Industries, Exeter, retiring in 1972. Mr. Buchman was an Army veteran of World War II, serving a a sergeant in the European Thea- ter. He was a member of the Shoe- maker United Methodist Church, West Wyoming and the Wyoming V.F.W. Post 296. Surviving are his wife, the for- mer Betty Hoffman; daughter Mrs. Janet Dyak, Exeter; son, Ronald, Harding; five grandchildren; sis- ter, Mrs. Frances Latosek, Center- moreland; brothers, Thomas, Binghamton, N.Y.; Richard, Cen- termoreland. Interment was in the Wyoming Cemetery. DAVID EMMANUEL David V. Emmanuel, 92, of Applewood Manor, RD 1, Dallas, died June 22, 1990, in the Geisin- ger Wyoming Valley Medical Cen- ter, Plains Township, following an illness. Born in Duryea, he was a son of the late David and Martha Davis Emmanuel. He was educated in Moosic schools and prior to retiring in 1986, was employed as an inspec- tor for Buell Engineers of Leba- non. : Mr. Emmanuel was a member of the Orange United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Cecelia Dymond in 1975; also brothers, Arthur and John. Surviving are sons, Leon, West Pittston; William, Media; nieces, Mrs. Ernest (Marietta) Gay, Dal- las; Mrs. Robert (Jean) Dymond, Roanoke, Va.; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. Interment was in Perrins Marsh Cemetery, Centermoreland. HAROLD LYONS SR. Harold W. Lyons Sr., 71, of RD 5, Dallas, died June 19, 1990, at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, where he had been a patient for the past week. Born Oct. 1, 1918, in Forty Fort, - he was the son of the late Jack and © Charity Steltz Lyons. he had been a ‘resident of Dallas for the past 17 years. He previously resided in Luzerne for many years. Prior to retiring in 1980, he was employed as an insulator for the Local 38 of the Asbestos Workers Union, Wilkes-Barre. He was a member of both the Bennett Presbyterian Church, Luzerne and the Pennsyl- vania Guild of Craftsmen. He and his wife, the former Ruth Stroud, celebrated their 53rd wed- ding anniversary in January 1990. Surviving in addition to his wife, are daughters, Mrs. Lois J. Jones, Trucksville; Mrs. Jill A. CHARLES ROWLANDS Charles Rowlands, 77, of Ter- race Avenue, Trucksville, died June 21, 1990, in Nesbitt Memorial Hospital, Kingston, after being stricken earlier at his home. Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late Hugh and Mary Smith Rowlands. He attended G.A.R. High School, Wilkes-Barre. He had been employed by the Hess Goldsmith Co., Wilkes-Barre, and was later engaged in the automo- tive industry in the Wyoming Val- ley, and later in the Delaware Val- ley. He had been a member of the: former Pennsylvania State Con- stabulary, and prior to his retire- mentin 1978, he had been with the Pennsylvania State Police and with the Pennsylvania Turnpike Com- mission at Willow Grove and Ply- mouth Meeting. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was a member of Trinity Presby- terian Church. He was active in Anthracite Post 283, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Kingston; the Mili- tary Order of Cooties; the St. David's Society of the Wyoming Valley. : He was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Celestine Buckley, who died in 1971; sis- ters, Mrs. Miriam Kaporch and Dilys Rowlands; brother, Gwilliam Rowlands. EVA WILKINSON Eva Wilkinson, 85, formerly of the Wyoming Valley, died June 22, 1990, in St. Barnabas Medical Center, Livingston, N.J. following an illness. Born in Kingston, she was a daughter of the late Layton and Annabell Sickler. Mrs. Wilkinson had lived in New Jersey since September 1989. Prior to living in New Jersey, she resided in Dallas for 24 years, in Forty Fort for several years, and in Kingston, the greater part of her life. Her husband, Edward W., died in December 1968. Mrs. Wilkinson was a member of the Dorranceton United Meth- odist Church, Kingston. Surviving are daughters, Mrs. Nancy Hamilton, West Caldwell, N.J.; Mrs. Louise Ricketts, Pitts- burgh; sons, Robert, Dallas; Ralph, Denville, N.J.; sisters, Mrs. Viola Brace, Dallas; Mrs. Marie Kline, Trucksville; eight grandchildren. Woman killed in Route 309 accident By CHARLOT M. DENMON Staff Writer Barbara Louise Zardus, 29, 52 Oliver Street, Wilkes-Barre, was killed in a two-car accident, Satur- day, June 23, on Route 309, Trucksville. Zardus was pro- nounced dead at 9:48 a.m. at Nesbitt Memorial Hospital. The occupants of the second car, Russell Hoover, 46, Woodbine Road, Shavertown; his wife, Di- ane, 43 and their son, Justin, 9, were treated and released from Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. Their daughter, Rebecca, 12, was admitted to the hospital with facial cuts and bruises and was listed in fair condition. Kingston Township police offi- cers -Robert Parrish and Robert Weiss said the accident happened about 8:55 a.m. south of the Carverton Road intersection where there is a curve in the highway. According to police a witness said that Zardus was traveling north on Route 309 at a high rate of speed in a late model small Ford, lost control of the car and skidded sideways across the center line of the highway into the southbound lane where her car was struck broadside by the Plymouth Voy- ager traveling south in the right side lane. Police report # DALLAS TOWNSHIP ATTEMPTED BREAK-IN Richard Disque, Windsor Drive, Dallas, reported to Dallas Town- ship Police that June 20, he dis- covered someone tried to gain access to the house by breaking through the screen door, but was unable to unlock the home's door. DUI ARREST On June 17, Dallas Township Police arrested Stanley Matthew Vrzycki, Sidney Street, Wilkes- Barre for driving under the influ- ence on Route 309 at approxi- mately 10:30 p.m. Vrzycki will be arraigned before District Magis- trate Early Gregory. KINGSTON TOWNSHIP FOUR INJURED IN CARVERTON RD CRASH Kimberly Culp, Pinecrest Ave., Dallas, told Kingston Township Police that June 20 she was trav- eling west on Carverton Road and saw a car driven by Karen Sue Mellner, Green Pond Road, Shav- ertown, at the stop sign. Culp said that when she approached the intersection, Mellner pulled out in front of Culp. Culp said she was unable to stop or move out of the way and impact of the two cars was at the intersection. The driv- ers and passengers in both cars were removed to the hospital for treatment. ; CYCLE STOLEN Nicholas Metzgar, 69 Manor Drive, Shavertown, reported to Kingston Township Police that a 1988 red and white Yamaha Moto- cross bike was taken by someone who broke into a shed on his prop- erty and took the bike. Morgan, Kingston, slowed down for a light changing from yellow to red light and An- drew J. Dizio, Levittown failed to stop and his car collided with her vehicle in the rear. INJURIES IN ACCIDENT ON ROUTE 309 Kingston Township Police in- vestigated an accident at the inter- section of Route 309 and South Pioneer Avenue where a car driven by Joseph M. Renkas, Tunkhan- nock, was stopped 35 feet ahead of a car driven by Mary Lori Ann Sorber, Noxen. Persons in both cars were taken to the hospital for treat- ment. ALLEGED TOOL THIEF ARRAIGNED Donald Cool, 83 Rice St., Trucksville, who was wanted by Kingston Township Police for the theft of a toolbox, was taken by Kingston Township and Ed- wardsville Police from an Ed- wardsville apartment and ar- raigned before the District Magis- trate. In lieu of $250 bail, Cool was remanded to the Luzerne County Prison. DISORDERLY CONDUCT IS CHARGED Patrolman Robert Weiss arrested Robert Oeller, Harveys Lake, for disorderly conduct on Route 309 in the vicinity of Russ Major's business place. DALLAS BOROUGH TWO CHARGED AFTER THEFT AT BERNIE'S PIZZA Officer William Norris charged Edward J. Miller, RD 3, Dallas for theft and Jill Melandri, RD 3, Dal- las, for criminal conspiracy, June 20, after Miller entered Bernie's Pizza Shop, Memorial Highway, Dallas, at about 5:39 and removed cash from the register. Holly Spencer, an employee at Bernie's Pizza, told police Miller came in and ordered a pizza and took it out to the car where the Melandri girl was a passenger. She stated Miller came back in and argued that the pizza was not done. Spencer said she put the pizza back in the oven and went to the back of the shop for a bucket. She heard the cash register open and came out and saw Miller removing $20 and $10 bills and in the proc- ess of taking a $5 bill out of the drawer. When she called to him he made a face and ran out of the shop, got in the car and took off. Harveys Lake Patrolman Ron Spock stopped the car with Miller and Melandri in it at the 42nd Street intersection with the high- way and radioed Officer Martin. Officer Elliot Ide also came on the scene. At that time Miller was placed under arrest. Melandri was charged |} with criminal conspiracy for con- spiring with the accomplice to take money from the register. Both were arraigned before the magistrate.
