DENMON Staff Writer Back Mountain American Le- gion team defeated North End nine 5-1 behind the mound work of Sam Gorgone and Keith Schultz last Thursday as the two hurlers held the North End to four hits and one run. : Gorgone pitched four innings allowing only one hit and one run while giving up seven walks and striking out one. Gorgone also had ‘two hits, one of them a double and scored two runs. Schultz hit a homerun in the third inning good for two runs - before taking the mound to pitch the final three innings, giving up seven walksand allowing only three = Chits. A strong Back Mountain defense held the North End to only one run. The Back Mountain nine . picked up seven hits off losing pitcher J. Shinal, who struck out three at the plate. In Monday's game Chris Engle pitched a four-hitter,. striking out 10 at the plate to lead the local team to a 7-2 win over Tunkhan- nock. Troy Strausser sparked a five-run first inning when he drove out a two-run triple and Engle aided by his own win by pickingup two hits. Schultz had two hits driv- ing in two runs and Matt Butler and Eric May had two hits each. Pin-a-fores June 6 results Hollenback Pin-A-Fores play of the day June 6 was most pars. Giving his all (Photo by Ron Bartizek) Dodgers, Reds tie for Little League title Dodgers pitcher John Oliver was tough to hit Saturday, as he breezed through the Reds lineup during a game to determine the Back Mountain National Little League champion. Oliver didn't allow ~ any hits, but the Reds won 1-0 in the bottom of the sixth on a run scored as a result of errors. (Photo by Ron Bartizek) Beaumont tops Cards Chris Ball struck out seven and helped his own cause at home plate with two hits as he led the Beaumont team to a 3-1 win over the First Eastern Bank Cards. Brian Duncan also helped in the win by knocking out a double and a single. JeffMalak, losing pitcher for the Cards struck out 13 at the plate. Rich Davis collected two hits for the losing team. . SALKO LEADS CARDS TO WIN OVER ASTROS In the Cards game with Harveys Lake Astros, the Cards nipped the Astros 7-6 behind Rich Davis who had relief help from Eric Stogoski. Despite striking out 11 and giving up only four walks Will Woronko took the loss. Chris Salko was the power at the plate for the Cards with an RBI triple in the seventh inning, then scored the winning run on an RBI single by the Cards second base- man Marlatt. Jason McDade also chipped in with three hits for the Cards. Jeff Smith went 3-for-4 for the Astros, one a double and Woronko tapped out two singles for the Astros. BREWERS HAND A'S FIRST LOSS IN 7 GAMES Merchant Bank Brewers de- feated the A's 10-5 to upset them for their first loss in seven games. Chris Baraski picked up the win pitching one and two-thirds in- nings with relief fronm Shawn Scavone, who pitched five innings and Jeff Kunkle who pitched one.
