The Yellow Rose 4-H Club is sponsoring their Second Annual Barrel Spectacular Saturday, June 23, starting at 3 p.m. at the Luzerne County Fairgrounds. This year's horse show consists of 10 timed events for both ama- teur and the experienced gymkhana rider. Exhibitors will be traveling from all across Penn- sylvania and from out of state to compete for some high cash awards. The event of the evening will be the “Yellow Rose Barrel Spectacular” with a guaranteed purse of at least $500 and open to all riders. DENMON Staff Writer Dallas nine edged Beaumont 4- 3 last Sunday scoring two runs in the fourth inning and two runs in the fifth inning to take a 4-3 lead over their visitors, in the Bi-County ‘Baseball League. Third baseman Kaiser went 2- for-2 at the plate and first base- mand. Kaiser knocked out a single. Both men accounted for runs and a third Kaiser, the pitcher knocked in the third run, as well as picking up the win. DENMON Staff Writer The Back Mountain American Legion team went 3-for-3 last week defeating Nanticoke 6-1 Saturday, shutting out Hanover 2-0 Wednes- day night and taking Northwest- Benton 6-2 Monday at the Dallas High School field. The Legion boys moved their record to 6-1 with the three wins in the Wyoming Valley League. Keith Schultz picked up the win for the Back Mountain striking out "eight and walking none. Schultz also drove out a long triple to the outfield for the team. Chris Engle was the power at home plate hitting 4-for-4 and driving in two runs. The Back Mountain took a 3-0 lead in the first inning when Ray Russin walked and Troy Strauser singled. Both boys advanced a base when Matt Butler grounded out and both came in to score when Engle knocked out a long triple to left field. Rich James hit a double to drive in Engle with the third run of the inning. In the third inning Engle hit a single and came home on Schultz's triple, then James sent Engle with a double after the Back Mountain boys had moved to 4-0 in the sec- ond inning. Nanticoke scored its only runin their half of the third. In Wednesday's game with Hanover, Back Mountain took a 1- 0 lead in the first inning on a walk by Ray Russin and an RBI single by Sam Gorgone. Troy Strauser scored the second run for Back Mountain in the sixth inning when he went to first on a walk, stole second and reached home on an eITor. Chris Engle picked up the win for the local Legion team when he gave up only two hits, struck out 15 and walked none. In last Monday's game, Keith Schultz was credited with the win after relieving Sam Gorgone on the mound. Schultz struck out three - and walked only one. Northwest-Benton took an early first inning 2-0 lead and held down the Back Mountain until the fifth inning when the boys rallied to score three runs in the inning and three more in the sixth. Matt Butler knocked out two singles, one in each inning and Engle drove out a homerun to pick up an RBI and score a run. Troy Strauser scored two of the Back Mountain team's runs, Butler scored one run and picked up an RBI. Sholtis and May scored the other two runs for the Back Moun- tain. Teener Athletics off to strong start The Back Mt. Teener Athletics have burst into the 1990 season with five straight wins. In the first game with the Dodgers Noel Al- varez made his pitching debut with a 5-2 1-hitter, while striking out 15. Randy Slaff in his first teener game went 3 for 3 with a double and three RBI's. Andy Flint got two hits with a double. The A's Jason Davies picked up a 13-3 victory over the Brewers in the next game. Flint, Slaff, and Brian Brady led the hitting assault with two hits apiece in an 11 hit attack. Davies and George Marut each doubled for the A's. Bailey went 2 for 2 with a double for the Brewers. Jason Mat- tey contributed two of the seven Yankee hits. Chris Williams and Slaff led the A's hitting attack with two apiece as the Harveys Lake Astros fell 11- 1. Davies was on the mound and picked up the win, yielding three hits and just one walk. The A's totaled nine hits. The Lehman Cardinals became the next victim as Alvarez pitched a four hitter and fanned 13 ina 7- named to all team and the Pennsylvania Colle- giate Athletic Associaton all-state team. Kuzma, who played second base for the Minutemaids, had a .317 batting average, and led the team 1 win. Flint and Williams led the nine hit barrage with two each. Alvarez and Slaff also cracked doubles and Marc Barbose had a key RBI single for the A's. Jeff Malak had an RBI double for the Cards. To close out the first half of the teener season, Brian Brady pitched the A's to an 8-2 win over Beaumont. Chris Williams had three hits and Jason Davies hit a solo homerun. Butcofski and Marut also tripled for the winners. Severs and Ball got two hits each for Beaumont. DENMON Staff Writer Dave Fisher picked up a win for the Dallas Yankees on the mound and by contributing three runs himself to lead the team to a 12-4 victory over the Lehman Cardi- nals. Mark Finarelli, Dave Fisher and Joe Wallace were two-time hitters and Brian Karuza scored three runs. Jeff Malak led the Cardinals with two hits. CARDS TOP DODGERS BEHIND CHAMBERLAIN The Lehman Cardinals defeated the Dallas Dodgers 10-5 in the Teeners League behind Ernie Chamberlain on the mound. Char- lie Siglin was credited with the loss. Malak and Chamberlain had key hits for the Cardinals and Chris Salko added a double. Shawn Kelly turned in some outstanding de- fense at third base for the Cardi- nals. Brian Bird had a single and a double for the Dodgers. BARASKI K'S SIX IN BREWERS 14-3 WIN Chris Baraski pitched the Brew- ers to a 14-3 trouncing of Beaumont, striking out six and giving up only four hits. Baraski had a single and a double at the plate and Jared Baranowski knocked out two singles. PACZEWSKI STRIKES OUT 14 AS YANKS WIN The Yankees nipped Beaumont 2-1 in their game with Todd Paczewski pitching a two-hitter and striking out 14. Losing pitcher Chris Ball gave up only one hit, a single by Dave Fisher. Wagner and Oakley had the two hits for Beaumont. BEAUMONT EDGES OUT DODGERS 5-4 Beaumont defeated the Dodg- ers 5-4 behind Chris Ball with Bogden the power at the plate for Beaumont going 2-for-4. Beaumont scored the winning run in the eight inning after the an ers tied it up in the seventh. Tim Faux saved hit by the Dodgers when he caught a super out in centerfield for the Beaumont team. WORONKO PITHCES, HITS ASTROS TO WIN Harveys Lake Astros took the Brewers 9-5 with Will Woronko on, the mound striking out eight and walking only four.
