Route 309, Back Mountain guessing game-where's rec center? Most residents of the Back Mountain are eagerly waiting for more information about the pro- posed Wilkes-Barre General/ YMCA physical fitness center to be located in this area. Many resi- dents of the area look forward to becoming a member of and using the facilities of such a center and for the sake of convenience wonder just where it will be located. Word about town has it that the choice has been narrowed down to just two locations, both ideally located, but the question being the acreage. As with most rumors, the reports change from week to week, but two sites remain uppermost in people’s conversations. The one most often heard is property on Hildebrandt Road near the entrance to the Dallas District High School, property said to be owned by Congressman Kanjorski. The only drawback to this is sup- posedly the lack of sufficient acre- age, although some property own- ers in that area have been ap- proached about selling some of their land. There has been no denial about the location not being the first choice, but then there is no way of knowing whether parties involved have heard the reports being cir- culated. That old and trite saying “Where there's smoke, there's fire”, could well be true, particularly since media representatives and local politicians have been hearing the rumors feequently. The second location mentioned is land along Route 118, not far from the intersection with Route 415. That's a lot of land to consider- at least after you get out past Whitesell Brothers on the right Dallas, PA Home of High Quality & Low Price fs weet Sensations Country Club Shopping Center « 675-6071 ¢ Wedding Cakes ¢ Birthday Cakes ¢ Fine Pastries ¢ All Pies Homemade & All Other Bakery Items ..Let Us Do Your Baking! 10% OFF Anything In Store With This Ad Mon. - 10 - 7 « Tues. One could make a guessing game out of which area the center could be constructed. It's difficult to believe that Wilkes-Barre General would be interested in being part of a center | in the vicinity of the Nesbitt Hospi- tal satellite. How about the section which used to be the old Lehman Horse Show Grounds? It's been mentioned, but we hardly think SO. Go much farther and you'reout in Lehman and not really centrally located. I have no idea where it might be but if I were going to guess, I'd rather consider the prop- erty where the Back Mountain Bowl is located. At least that's for sale and there is a lot of land in that section. Maybe the interested par- ties could even convince the owner of the skating rink to sell and use the whole area for the center. Bad guess, you think? It’s better than none, but to be serious, we believe that somewhere along Hil- debrandt Road would be the best | guess. Such a building as the one proposed would fit nicely in the area of the school buildings. We are certain of one thing and that is the committee in charge of obtaining a location for the new facility will select the property they consider the most adaptable for everyone-the medical center, the Y’ and their future clientele. 50 3 Great Gifts for Grads & Dads Country Club Shopping Center Route 309, Dallas, PA 18612 Phone 675-3168 HOURS: Monday thru Saturday, 10 - 9 Sunday, Noon - 5 ll Budget 1 HOUR $2.00 Off (Not Including Shirt Orders) Phone 675-0468 Drycleaning & Shirt Service June Special - Any Order over $8.00 Receive In by NOON Ready by 7 HOURS: Mon. thru Fri.7 - 7; Sat. 7 - 5 Family Owned & Operated - Barry & Carol Boyer - Proprietors All Work Done On Premises 2% SENIOR CITIZEN 10% DISCOUNT - EXCEPT SPECIALS ( ) Country Club Shopping Genter Your one-stop shopping headquarters in the Back Mountain Off Route 309, Dallas convenient to reach from everywhere J "SI A) ABLE COUPON I I EN EN Ey + Coupon Required $5.5 THRIFTY TUESDAY SAVE $4.26 2 Medium Pizzas Valid Any Time Tuesday » Expires 10/31/90 - Country Club Shopping Center 675-6999 BE DEN BEN BE WE Em Em VALUABLE COUPON NE plus tax 2 Topping Each
