The purpose of the walk is to raise money for Church World Services and St. John's Hospice in Philadelphia. Church World Serv- ices provides funds to a variety of social service agencies that pro- vide for the needs of the poor and needy. St. John's Hospice is a Soup Kitchen/Shelter in the city of Phila- delphia that feeds and houses hundreds on a daily basis. This is the 3rd year a Crop Walk will be held at Dallas. It is being sponsored by the St. Dismas Chap- ter of Bread For The World (BFW). BFW is a national Christian citi- zen's movement concerned with the problem of world hunger. The St. Dismas Chapter is the only prison chapter in existence. There are 70 inmate members and 26 Associate Members from the Wilkes-Barre /Scranton area. Many of those Associate Members will join the inmates for the walk. The St. Dismas Chapter is coor- dinated by Fr. Clement J. Podskoch, C.S.C. He is the Catho- lic Chaplain at Dallas. Jack Pace- wicz, a 36 year old Scranton native is the Resident Coordinator of the chapter. Last year the men raised nearly $1800 for the Church World Servcies, and VISION, a Wyoming Valley program that provides for the needs of the homeless. This year the men hope to raise $3000. Money is being raised through donations by inmates, their fami- lies, supporters of the group in local communties, pledges from the Dallas L.ILF.E. Association, Alcoholics Anonymous, the Cen- turion Jaycees, the Latin Ameri- can Culture Study group, the Catholic, Protestant and Muslim communities at the prison, and the sale of Crop Walk T-Shirts.
