Property transfers Commission recommends forming a water authority By CHARLOT M. DENMON Staff Writer George Gwilliam of Harveys Lake reported at the Back Mountain Water Commission's last meeting that there are townhouses being built at Hanson's and that DER has been investigating more con- tamination of the water supply at the Harveys Lake Borough. Dallas Township member Jo- seph Grimes called the members’ attention to new townhouses being constructed on the College Miseri- cordia campus. The members discussed the impact these additional develop- ments will have on the Back Moun- tain’s water resources and finally approved a recommendation that a water authority be set up to handle the development and water problems in the Back Mountain. It was suggested that the Com- mission contact the Dallas Area Municipal Authority about ade- quately advising the municipali- ties about the water supply since DAMA is already chartered as a water authority. Dallas Township approves three subdivision plans By CHARLOT M. DENMON Staff Writer , Applications for sub-divisions submitted by five property owners at the April 17 meeting of the Dal- las Township planning and zoning boards which were tabled until a special meeting April 24, were acted upon with three approved and two disapproved. The township planning and zoning approved College Miseri- cordia’s sub-divisions request for the purpose of building townhouses on the campus; the Keenan sub-division on Goodleigh Farms because the Luzerne County Planning Commission expressed reservations about a road. Dallas Township supervisors at a meeting Tuesday, May 1, ap- proved a motion that in all future developments, there would be no approval until the township's en- gineer investigated proposed de- velopments and reported his evalu- ation to the supervisors. Chairman Phillip Walter re- ported that he attended a recent conference where information concerning building permits and codes were discussed. Walter said he learned that if the township wanted to adopt parts of the Boca Code they could do so without having a fulltime building inspec- tor. “We could insist that the builder request the National Underwriters todo the inspection at the builder's expense. We would not have to bear the expense and the builder could include the inspection costs in his building fees,” Walter ex- plained.
