Dr. Pasquale DiPasquale, Jr. on your Inauguration, May 5, 1990 as Ninth President of College Misericordia | A Celebration of Tradition and Change Inaugurated as ninth president of College Misericordia, Dr. Pasquale DiPasquale Jr. is dedicated to the mission of the college and its sponsors, the Religious Sisters of Mercy, to provide a quality liberal arts education for its students. His plans for growth in the areas of increased enrollments, academic programs and facilities bring new direction and vision for the future, and will have a long-range impact on the prosperity of Misericordia. Dr. DiPasquale joined Misericordia as its third lay president on June 1, 1989. He replaced Dr. Joseph Fink, who resigned from Misericordia in September 1988, to accept the presidency of Dominican College of San Rafael in San Francisco. Executive vice president Dr. Bruce Wilson served as acting president in the interim. Dr. DiPasquale was born in East Boston, Massachusetts and received his early education in the Boston and Somerville public schools. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Notre Dame, and as a Fulbright Scholar, earned his bachelor's and Master's degrees in English language and literature from Oxford University. He received his Ph.D. in English literature from the University of Pittsburgh, specializing i in medieval studies. Dr. DiPasquale began his career as a lay missioner in Africa where he met his wife Charlotte, also a lay missioner. His academic career began in 1961 at Seton Hill College, where he taught English and literature. He subsequently served as professor of medieval English language and literature at the University of Oregon and Illinois State University, where he also directed English graduate studies. In 1972, Dr. DiPasquale left the classroom and accepted a new challenge as the first lay president of Assumption College in Worcester, Massachusetts. Five years later he became the first lay president of Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa. In 1987, Dr. DiPasquale was appointed the first lay president of St. Thomas University in Miami, Florida. he The president is active in a number of higher education professional organizations and has made a personal commitment to community involvement. He and his wife, Charlotte, live in Dallas and have three daughters. 1 1 College Misericordia, a four-year, coeducational Catholic institution founded in 1924 and sponsored by the Religious Sisters 1 oY of Mercy, provides its students with challenging, liberal arts-based education.
