DENMON Staff Writer “We'rea young team this year,” - said Dallas High School head track coach William Kvashay. “We have 29 boys out for the field and track squad but they need experience. We lost a lot of our top people through gradu- ation. “Among the returning letter- men we have junior Steve Oliver, co-captain, a great distance runner; Brian Smith, distance. runner; Chris Rogers, Brian Fett and Jeff Dover, runners; Wayde DeHaven Post and Sam Jayne Jr., throwers. | “We have some key athletes in Dave Podehl, Rob Morris and Ryan Kilbourn, sprinters; Jay Kvashay said this year’s team consists mostly of juniors and sophomores and although they are a young team, he is happy with their attitudes and the fact that they are working hard and they are great at attending prac- tice. “Our weak spot is the jump- ing events, the long jump the most critical but if they continue to develop as they have been they could surprise some people. Time will tell,” Kvashay said. “We'll have a better idea after the first several meets. Both are an inspiration to the younger girls. Kelly Cleary will probably run the 400 and 800 and Andrea Shone will probably throw the discus. Ann Smaka is a good hurdler and won in districts last" season. Freshman Becky Yurko is showing potential as a dis- tance runner and so is Sherry Terescavage. “The rest are still working at positions and are showing prom- ise.
