Stetten, Associ- ate Professor of Psychology at Wilkes University, will have the newest radio play he has written, “Bartholomew Barton's Pursuit,” aired on this Sunday, March 11, at 3:30 p.m. (following the N.E. PA Philharmonic Pops concert), by WVIA FM90, the regional public radio fine arts station. The dia- logue was recorded in the WVIA studios in early December of 1989. Mr. Thomas McHugh, station manager at WVIA and producer on this project, gathered the required sound effects, then edited and mixed for the final tape. The psychologicalcomicdrama is set in the late 1800s, across various locales in the Old West and Southwest. Two second-rate East Coast actors, a husband and wife team, attempt to bring “high culture” to this unruly part of the country. The husband, Bartholomew, has become disen- chanted with the effort, and only wishes to acquire the necessary fi- nancial wherewithal to build his own theatre, where he can bill Shakespeare to his heart's con- tent. In this pursuit, he decides to supplement their meager income as actors by taking on sundry unsavory activities. Inthe process, the man demeans his acting craft and alienates his long-suffering wife beyond endurance. Finally, however, Bartholomew does learn which pursuit, above all, has the most importance to him. The cast members, from the Omega Play- ers of Pennsylvania, are Walter S. Mitchell, Jr. as Bartholomew Bar- ton and Micky Nieman as his wife Katie. Narration is provided by Meetings “BARTHOLOMEW BARTON'S PURSUIT” - Recording Session in the WVIA F90 studio. From left, Walter Back Mountain resident pens radio play S. Mitchell, Jr., Micky Nieman, Thomas McHugh, Dr. Stetten. Robert Salsburg, WVIA host, and the play was directed by its author. This radio play, as with three others which were aired by WVIA in the recent past (“Statues on an Empty Beach,” “Return of the Minotaur,” “A Knight's Tale”), will be made available to National Public Radio (NPR) affiliate sta- Dance tions nationwide via satellite. The projectwas underwritten by a grant from Wilkes University as a public service. Dr. Stetten is a member of The Dramatists Guild and is artis- tic associate with Showcase The- atre of Exeter. The theatrical efforts of Dr. Stetten are meant to comple- ment his professional interests in personality theory, social cognition, and the psychology of drama. He resides in Dallas Township with his wife, Sonja, a locally estblished artist. She will have her next one-woman show at Leah's Lasting Impressions gallery of Al- lentown in June.
