(Photo by Ron Bartizek) Denim creations on display at Hefft House Gallery "The Art of Denim," an exhibit of recent work by Fred and Val- erie Swarr will be on display at the Hefft House Gallery in Shaver- town beginning Sunday, March 4 and continuing thorugh March 28. Fred and Valerie Swarr, from Manheim, PA, have their own brand of creativity, based on the use of denim. Valerie's background includes advertising, commercial art and typesetting. Her knowledge of color and design has Jed her to her latest creation of the Gypsie Baskets. They are unusual coiled baskets wrapped and woven from multi-colored denim, each with its own unique characteristics. Fred's education consists of a Bachelor of Science and Master's Degree in Art Education. His artwork, also made of denim, starts with pieces sewn together to form a background upon which he does impressionistic-styled painting with acrylics. He also does sculpture of denim sewn, dyed and stretched over an armature. Their denim work has been exhibited in galleries and sidewalk art shows on the east coast from New York to Virginia. Fred also. has paintings in the permanent collections of Shippensburg and Millersville Universities. The Hefft House exhibit will begin with a reception on March 4 from 2 to 5 p.m. It will then be open Tues., Wed., Fri. and Sat. from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursdays from 10 to 8 and Sundays from 1 to "4.
