DENMON Staff Writer The Dallas Lady Mountaineers went into their second half opener against Hazleton optimistic they could win, but it took only the first quarter for the top of the mountain team to take al5-8 lead by using the full court press against the Dallas girls. The visitors increased ‘their lead in the second quarter outscoring Dallas 22-14 to go into the lockerroom at halftime leading. 37-22. Hazleton took the full court press off in the third quarter and Dallas took advantage of it to outscore their opponents 15-6 and come effort carries over into the games coming up. Brett Gauntlett had an outstanding game tossing in 18 points and Damon Lisnow scored 15. Ray Russin played great offense and defense and Eric Nardone played his usual strong game. : “All the kids played well,” Ozgo. said. “Coming off the bench Mark Medura and Mike Farris did a fine job for us and never gave up, nor did Jeff Tinner.” The Dallas boys were outscored the first halfbut both teams played fairly evenly the second half. The Dallas team was scheduled to play Nanticoke Tuesday night, then host Wyoming at home Fri- day night, Dallas girls lose second half opener to Hazleton within six of the visiting Mounts. Dallas continued to rally in the opening minutes of the final period until Hazleton broke a 43-43 tie with less than seven minutes to play by using the press intermit- tently. That proved to be effective, when they started to pull away from Dallas and walked away with a 57-52 win. Unable to score points in the first quarter, the Dallas girls came on strong later in the game with Jen Besecker ending with 15 points and Laura Poynton and Tara Lis- now collecting 12 points each, one of Poynton’s was a three-pointer. The Patriots took eight of the bouts to outdo the Mountain- eers, who won three of their bouts with pins by 130-1b. Bob Jesse, 171-1b. Jamie Janosky and 189- 1b. Wade Post. - The Mountaineers went on the board first when 103-1b. Eric Wil- liams won 9-5 but the Patriots tied it up when 112-lb. John Abent decisioned Mount Shaffer 5-2. The Patriots took the next two bouts to take a 9-3 lead but Jesse tied the score at 9-9 when he flattened 130-1b. Mark Filip- ini in 5:44. The Patriots took the next five bouts to move the lead out of the Mounts reach before Jansoky and Post pinned their opponents. DENMON Staff Writer The Lady Knights of Lake- Lehman outscored the Northwest Rangers 53-31 last Thursday at home to win their second half opener. Wendy Skibitsky led the Knights in scoring with 29 points, putting 13 shots through the nets from the field and making 2-for-2 from the foul line. Alyson Davis hit 13 points for the Lady Knights tossing in six from the field and 1-for-3 from the free throw stripe. The Lady Knights traveled to Bishop Hafey hoping to defeat the Lady Vikings just as the boys team overcame their counterparts but despite Wendy Skibitsky pouring in 27 points, the Lady Knights bowed 79-48 to the Vikings. Skibitsky scored 18 points from the field and went 5-for-7 from the foulline. D.D. Mazur tossedin 11, three from the field and 5-for-11 from the free throw stripe, but the combined shooting of Bishop Hafey’s Tara McClure and Kathy Nemshick for 44 points was too: much for the Lady Knights. - Hafey's Ustonoski's 12 points and Kringe's 10 helped pile up the lead for the Lady Vikings. Skibitsky tossed in four three- pointers for the Knights and McClure put in three three-point- ers for the Vikings. The Lady Knights fell down at the foul line, hitting only 10 out of 23 tries while the Vikings put in 4- for-7.
