Miss Wilkes-Barre/Scranton pageant accepting hopefuls The Miss Wilkes-Barre/Scran- ton Scholarship Pageant is an offi- cial preliminary pageant which leads directly to The Miss Pennsyl- vania Pageant, and then direct to The Miss America Pageant. Con- testants must be between the ages of 17 and 26 years, ayoung woman who will have completed high school by the Sept. 1990 Miss America Pageant, and able to compete in all four phases of competition: Private Interview, a 2.50 Talent presentation, Swim- suit and Evening Gown. Each contestant will receive an individ- ual score in each competition, without relationship to the other phases of competition or other contestants. The Miss Wilkes- Barre/Scranton Scholarship Pag- eant retains an “open” franchise, which allows young women to compete if they either live in Penn- sylvania, or work or attend school in this Commonwealth. There is no entrance fee—The Miss Wilkes- Barre/ Scranton and all Miss America pageants are non-profit and organized or managed by vol- unteers. Groups seeks host families for exchange students Host Families are being sought for 25 high school students from Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Fin- land, Holland, Austria, New Zeal- and, Australia and Japan for the school year 1990-91 in a program sponsored by the American Inter- cultural Student Exchange (AISE). The students, age 15 through 17, will arrive in the United States in August, 1990, attend a local high school, and return to their home countries inJune 1991. The students, all fluent in English, have been screened by their school representatives in their home countries and have spending money and medical insurance.
