After the club business, a presentation “Christmas in Denmark” was given by Inga Goldsmith, afterwards tea, punch, finger sandwiches and cookies were served. Program will honor Dr. King The Martin Luther King, Jr. National Holiday is the day set forth to commemorate the legacy of Dr. King and to celebrate the spirit of freedom for which he stood. This year's celebration will take place on January 14, 1990 and will coincide with his 61st birthdate. / This year's program willbe held at Dorothy Darte Center, Wilkes College on January 14, 1990 at 2:30 p.m. Dorothy Cotton, a long- time associate of King and direc- tor of student affairs at Cornell University, will be the keynote speaker.- In conjunction with the pro- gram, the committee is sponsor- ing a poetry contest open to all elementary, junior and high school students in Wyoming Valley. A letter has been sent out to all school districts. The poem should be on the theme of what the life of Martin Luther King has meant to them. Beverly Collins and Joe DiVizio are chairing a committee to get the youth of Wyoming Valley in- volved in receiving the Martin Luther King Youth Award. Wilkes-Barre 'Y' lists new programs NIGHT AT THE Y FOR TEENS The Wilkes-Barre Y.M.C.A. will open its facilities to Junior-Senior High School students ages 13-18 on Saturday nights from Jan. 6 to April 7. Students have exclusive use of the Y.M.C.A. facility. The “Y” will be available for swimming, gym (basketball and volleyball), racquet- ball, weightlifting, socialization and much more! The building will open at 7:30 p.m. and stay open until 10 p.m. The cost of the program is a Y.M.C.A. High School or Junior High School membership or $1.00 per night. As the program progresses the “Y” will run Teen dances and other Teen events. A Teen Committee is trying to be formed. If you're a teen and interested in doing different activities and want a voice in what you do then the “Y” is for you. For further information call Steve Riley, Youth Director at the “Y”, 823- 2191. NO SCHOOL DAY PROGRAM The No School Day Program is a recreational program designed for children ages 5-14 when school is not in session. It gives the youth of our area somewhere to go when they have a day off from school. The program consists of a rec- reational and structured gym classes, swimming, arts, crafts, field trips, and much more! : Programs are planned for the following dates: January 15, Feb- ruary 16 and February 19. Children could be dropped off at the Y.M.C.A. from 8-9 a.m. and can be picked up from 4-5:30 p.m. Also the children need to bring a swim suit, towel, gym clothes and a lunch. Drinks will be provided. Children must be pre-registered 3 days prior to program date.
