Denmon) The Guild for Cultural Events at John Vaida to conduct Christmas concert the Forty Fort United Methodist Church has announced the selec- tion of John M. Vaida as guest conductor for the annual Christ- mas by Candlelight Concert. Mr. Vaida will conduct the Parish Sing- ers in the performances of Vivaldi's “Magnificat,” and direct the Birch Hill Consort in seasonal baroque chamber music. A frequent guest conductor, Mr. support of the program and ideals of the school, and positive influ- ence on the life of students. In addition to serving as Chair- man of the Fine Arts Department of Wyoming Seminary, and Ad- junct Professor of Music at Wilkes College, where he is also Director of the Wilkes College Chorus. Mr. Vaida holds degrees from Westminster Choir College and Marywood College. He resides in The Junior League of Wilkes- Barre invites you to the second annual Holiday Boutique and Antique Show to be held on De- cember 7, 8 and 9 at the First United Methodist Church, 47 N. Franklin Street in Wilkes-Barre. There will be lots of crafts, flow- ers, holiday decorations, antiques and jewelry - everything you need for your holiday shopping. There will be a tea room where you can rest up while enjoying refreshments from Old River Road Bakery. This is a major fundraiser for the JuniorLeague and it enables us to support our various commu- nity projects including the Cather- ine McAuley House (a shelter for homeless women and children). Tickets are available from any League member and are $4 in advance, $5 at the door. We are also proud to be contributing $1 from each ticket to the restoration fund of the First United Methodist Church. Local businesses have donated merchandise for a raffle being held in conjunction with the show. Junior League boutique this weekend Vaida most recently participated in the 1989 International Cham- ber Choir Festival in Marktober- dorf, West Germany. He has been invited to conduct in the 14th Bela Bartok International Festival in Debrecen, Hungary. The Madrigal Singers of Wyo- ming Seminary under the direc- tion of Mr. Vaida, have won nu- merous awards and citations for their level of excellence and inter- pretation. The ensemble recently toured Austria and Hungary sing- ing concerts in schools and cathe- drals. ‘In June of this year. Mr. Vaida was awarded the Frances and Louis Yacht Club plans Commodore's Ball John M. Vaida Maslow Award at Wyoming Semi- nary’s commencement. Estab- lished in 1978, the Maslow Award is awarded to a member of the faculty or administration who has demonstrated effective teaching, Shavertown with his wife and chil- dren. The Christmas By Candlelight Concert this year will be held on Sunday, December 17 at 7:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church on Wyoming Avenue in Forty Fort. In addition to the “Magnificat” and instrumental chamber music, the program will include a selection of European and traditional carols. Guest organist for the concert will be Patty Warwick, and soloists will be Joanne Herron, soprano, Helen Ralston, contralto, and Gene Kelle- her, tenor. A reception will follow in the chandelier room: The public is invited. The Harveys Lake Yacht Club will hold its annual Commodore's Ball on Saturday, Dec. 16, at the Westmoreland Club.
