He was born at Nesbitt Memorial Hospital in Kingston. ~ Maternal grandparents are Edward and Helga Senk of Char- lestown, Rhode Island. Paternal grandmother is Phyllis Bartizek of Willimantic, Connecticut. Carl has a sister, Kathryn Eliza- beth, who is three and one-half years old. The program opened with a welcome by Shawn Murphy, mis- tress of ceremonies. Dr. William Camp, . college provost, offered comments, and Vel Shearer, pro- gram coordinator/counselor, gave a history of the Single Parent and Homemaker program at LCCC. Participants in the college's program, Sue Confer, Dianna Gardjulis, Paulette Zearfoss and Peg Willis, spoke on their experi- ences in the LCCC Homemaker -program. / Guest speaker for the celebra- tion was Dorothy Hershey, coordi- nator, Single Parent and Home- maker Programs, Pennsylvania Department of Education. Henry Schultz, member of the LCCC Single Parent and Home- maker Program Advisory Board, gave recognition to employers in- volved with the program; and Maureen Ambrose, director, Par- ent and Family Involvement Serv- ices, Pennsylvania Department of Education, former coordinator of the LCCC program, also offered comments. The Single Parent and Home- maker program at LCCC helps single parents and homemakers become self-supporting members of the community. It contributes to solving the critical problems of unemployment, and aids in the elimination of social, mental health, and economic conditions that re- sult in individual dependency on the welfare system. The LCCC Single Parent and Homemaker program offers many services to single parents and homemakers who wish to return to school. The program, which is open to both men and women, provides funding for those who need job training so they can ei- ther enter, or return to, the work force.
