Dallas Band places second to begin competition season The Dallas Band started off its competition season performing in the Arthritis Foundation Competi- tion which was held Sunday, Oct. 1 at the Wilkes-Barre Memorial Stadium. The band placed second in Group I competition. They also competed in the Lake- Lehman competition which’ was held on Sunday, Oct. 8 at the Lake-Lehman High School. They finished in second place in Group I competition. On Sunday, Oct. 22, they compted in the Second An- nual Children’s Miracle March competition which benefits The Children's Hospital Center at Geisinger Medical Center. The competition was held at the Lacka- wanna county multi-purpose sta- dium at Montage. The band placed third in Group I competition. They also competed in Chapters which was held Sunday, Nov. 5 at the Wyoming Area stadium in West Pittston. They finished third in Group I competition. The band also performed as a community service in the Dallas Kiwanis Halloween Parade Sun- day, Oct. 29. Honors Band members Four members of the Lake-Lehman High School Marching Band have been selected to the Marywood College Junior High Honors’ Band. The Honors’ Band is comprised of young musicians from throughout Pennsylvania. The four ninth graders were nominated by their director and were chosen because of their musical accomplishments. On December 1 the students will be judged during auditions for sectional seating. Financial aid program at Dallas High The Dallas Senior High School Guidance Department announces a program concerning financial aid for all students planning to continue their education beyond high school, and for their parents. This program is scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 6, at 7 p.m. in the high school cafeteria. Mrs. Patricia Russin, Counselor Coordinator, will moderate the program which includes the following: Dr. Thomas O'Donnell, III, Regional Director of the Pennsylvania High Education Agency (PHEAA), who will discuss State Grant and Loan Programs. : Mrs. Lucky Hill, Director of Financial Aid at Keystone Junior College, who will speak on College Based Financial Aid. Career speakers at Dallas The Dallas Senior High School Peer Helpers, in conjunction with the Dallas Rotary, have been making arrangements for Career Speakers. There will be two speakers coming in monthly to appropriate classes. Mrs. Kathleen Sanchez, Physical Therapist’'s Assistant at Nesbitt Hospital was the first career speaker in October. She spoke with the Human Physiology and A.P. Biology classes. Mr. Jeff Townsend, from Rotary, is in charge of securing the speakers. The program is to help students get information on careers directly from people working in the field. : Terrell D. Smith named President's Fellow at Trinity Terrell D. Smith, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Harry A. Smith Jr. of 50 Terrace Drive, Dallas, has been selected by the Trinity College faculty as the President's Fellow in American studies for the 1989-90 academic year. : Each academic department and program at Trinity annually nomi- nates a senior major to be a Presi- dent's Fellow. Selection is based on outstanding achievement in the major, as well as evidence of wide- ranging intellectual interest.
