8 The Dallas Post Dallas, PA Wednesday, November 15, 1989 COMMUNITY Neighborhood 24 volunteers honored Volunteers from Neighborhood 24, Dallas Area, under the chair- manship of Joann Freeman, kept 163 participants on the edge of their seats at the Penn's Woods Girl Scout Council Annual Dinner, held at the Willow Run Inn in ~ Berwick on Tuesday night, Nov. 7. A highlight of the evening came ~ when they “roasted” Sally Jervis, Executive Director of the Council, on the occasion of her 20th anni- versary in that position, and sa- luted all the volunteers who are the cornerstone of the Girl Scout movement. Committee members wore the Council's collection of historic uniforms to demonstrate how far Girl Scouting has come in 78 years. ¥ At the Annual Business Meet- ing after dinner, the following offi- cers were elected: Patricia Stella, Laflin, II Vice-President; Sandra Campbell, Berwick, Secretary; and Molly Gallagher Bronsberg, Carver- ton, Treasurer. The following Board Members- at-Large were elected: Gloria Bech- tel, Pottsville; Georgiann Davis, Summit Hill; Joan Evans, Wilkes- Barre; Beverly Fisher, Mountain- top; Judith Force, Berwick; Joann Freeman, Dallas; Irene Kennedy, Wilkies-Barre; Carolann Toporcer, Nanticoke; and Lois Young, Ash- land. Elected to the Nominating Committee were: Nancy Ballard, Sugarloaf; Janice Kelly, Mountain- top; Sandy Sadowski, Nanticoke; Carol Seltzer, Forty Fort; and Lois Young, Ashland. Neighborhoods 7 and 24 tied for the Attendance Award. Recently Boy Scout Troop 281, as part of their Firemanship Merit Badge requirement, visited the Dallas Volunteer Fire Company where they were hosted by Brett Slocum, Assistant Chief of the Dallas Borough Fire Company, also Firemanship Merit Badge counselor. Mr. Slocum is a former Eagle Scout of Troop 281, Dallas. Harvest dinner-dance set The Harveys Lake Protective Association announces its seventh annual social, Harvest Evening of Dining and Dancing, honoring the club’s past presidents, Friday, November 17, at Pier lll, Harveys Lake. Cocktails, with open bar, will be held at 7 p.m. A full course dinner, featuring Shrimp Coquille or Delmonico Steak will continue from 8 to 9 p.m. Dancing and open bar will follow from 9 p.m. to midnight featuring music by the Starfires. The workshop will be held at the VA Medical Center from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The program has been approved by the Pennsylvania Nurses Association for 8.7 contact hours. The instructor for the workshop will be Shirley Ann Smith, RN, MSN, Dallas, Clincal Specialist in Oncology at the VA Medical Cen- ter. Mrs. Smith has had eightyears of experience in managing an out- patient chemotherapy clinic. She has lectured at many conferences and seminars and has published in medical, nursing and hospice journals. Mrs. Smith served as chairperson for the Professional Education Committee of the Ameri- can Cancer Society and serves on the Nursing Education Committee at the state level.
