Misericordia gallery features Wilkes-Barre native Vibrant color and clean, geo- metric shapes are the hallmarks of the art of Wilkes-Barre native Edward Halter Meneeley, whose work will be featured at College Misericordia’s Art Gallery in Re- gina Hall, Dallas, Oct. 8 - Nov. 5. The exhibition. titled “Recent Abstract Expressionistic Paint- ing and Sculpture,” includes 40 sculptures and paintings which Meneeley created this decade. They range from the “Window on Yesterday” series, featuring bold slashes of dark color on paper; to “High Low,” a highly polished chrome diamond bi- sected by five chrome tubes. Meneeley, 63, grew up in Wilkes-Barre and studied there at the Murray Art School, and the School of Visual Arts in New York City. He now maintains a home and studio in a renovated schoolhouse in Weissport, Pa., near Jim Thorpe. His work is recognized both in the US and Europe, and has been described as structured, yet bursting with playfulness and jubilance; discipline com- bined with whimsey. He has had solo shows in the Frank Marino and Ericson Galleries in New York City; and has work on display at New York's Metro- politan Museum of Art and Whit- ney Museum, and the Tate Gal- lery in London.
