DENMON Staff Writer Coach Rich Gorgone’s Lake- Lehman Black Knights served no- tice on the Tunkhannock Tigers in Saturday's game that they were out to win and they proved: it by defeating the Tigers 20-19. The Knights came from behind and their defense played heads up football to go in front in the final _ quarter. “Our kids showed a great ef- NH said Gorgone. “They played should be a plus for the Knights. “Meyers has a very good defense and they also have two or three good players on offense. I saw them against Dallas and they played a good defense. We have to get our offense more consistent. We'll work on it this week but we will take just one game at a time.” Both teams were unable to score in the first quarter but the Tigers went in front 6-0 when Joe Rinkus took the ball in from 38 yards on the second play of the second hard and in the last quarter they were just great; they played to the last 15 seconds. Defeating the Tigers was a great plus for our kids because they had a good football team. “Sam made some good plays and he had great protection. A quarterback has to have that to be able to do anything. John Bara- pn caught some great passes ®he played an outstanding game,” Gorgone said. This week the Knights play - Meyers on the home field which quarter. That lead didn't hold for long when the Tigers Scott Davies completed a pass to Rinkus but Rinkus was hit and the ball was jarred loose. Knight Mike Strutko picked up the ball and ran 20 yards to the Tigers one-yard line. On the next play Terry Martin took the ball over for a score and the teams were tied 6-6. Late in the third quarter Martin got the ball again and went into the end zone from the two yard line to give the Knights the lead. The Ti- gers came right back to score and tie it up, then went in front 13-12 on the point after touchdown. The Knights were not to be denied the win and on their next possession, Gorgone hit Baranow- ski with a 21-yard pass to move into the Tunkhannock territory. On the next play Gorgone hit Jim Chamberlain with a 45-yard pass to give the Knights the lead, then after a delay of game penalty of five yards, Gorgone passed to Bara- nowski for a two-point conversion and what appeared to be a Lake- Lehman win. The Tigers didn’t give up, how- ever, and Davies used three passes to take the Tigers 87 yards down the field where Rinkus took the ball in for a score. The Tigers went for two points and the win but Baranowski knocked the ball out of bounds and gave his team the win. The Tigers attempt at an onside kick failed and the Knights went home with the 20-19 win.
