DAVIS Post Staff There were some tense moments this weekend in Shavertown after a car struck a house severing a gas line and releasing explosive fumes into the air. ‘ East Center Street was closed off from Route 309 to North Lehigh Street Saturday, after police ar- rived on the scene of a one vehicle accident. It was reported that Margaret Davis had to leave the borough's employ due to illness in her family and Debra Kelly had been hired temporarily in her place. The board approved a motion to hire Kelly permanently as the new borough clerk on a six month probationary period at $4 per hour for an aver- age of a 15-hour week. Solicitor John Fine reported that the title for Hearthstone Pub had PA an been resolved and it was now in A % order to file a lawsuit, if desired. Michael J. Pasonick Company sent a notice that DAMA had sent an application for a sewage exten- sion permit for a new pump station and gravity sewers to service 13 lots in the proposed Stonehedge subdivision expansion. \ North Main Street and East Center Street. Gas could be heard escap- ing from the line. Shavertown and Trucksville fire- fighters were called to the scene, and the entire block was closed off. No injuries were reported in the accident, but firefighters were concerned that the leak could result in a massive explosion. The public was kept away for two hours as firefighters and personel from UGI worked to plug the leak. The gas leak was capped with- out incident around 3 p.m., and residents were allowed back to their homes. DAVIS Post Staff Nine local governments will receive funds from the Auditor General's office to distribute to their Volunteer Fire companies as part of a $34.1 million dollar statewide project. Luzerne County will receive $697,003 to be distributed to the Just like mom's Local fire companies to get state funds i local governments, which in tum will turn the funds over to the volunteer fire company relief asso- ciations in their jurisdictions. The funds are part of Act 205, passed in 1984, which provides money to aid the 1,975 fire relief associations in the state.
