Located in the Daniel J. Flood Skills Center, 53 Blackman Street, Wilkes-Barre, the program's pri- mary goal is to provide high school drop-outs 18 years of age or older who meet the economic guidelines with the opportunity to earn a General Education Development (high school equivalency) Certifi- cate. Since the program started in February 1984, 1348 students have been enrolled, with 850 suc- . cessfully passing the G.E.D. test. A majority of the students have increased their reading and mathe- matic skills at least two grade lev- els. This in addition to other tan- gible and intangible benefits gained through individualized instruction, made time spent worthwhile. The schedule is open-ended which means a student may start at anytime and finish when he or she has completed their Individu- alized Educational Program (IEP) and is ready for testing. Many do this in two weeks, with a maxi- mum instructional assignment of 20 hours per week. Classes are conducted daily Monday thru Fri- day by certified instructors from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. To enroll, or have your ques- tions answered, visit the center at 53 Blackman Street ro call 822- 1101, Ext. 243.
