Born in Sugar Notch, she was the daughter of the late Leo and Rose Glodek Slabinski. She was a resident of Dallas for the past 18 years. She was raised in Larksville and graduated from Larksville High School in 1955. She later gradu- ated from College Misericordia and was employed as a math teacher in the Wilkes-Barre Area School Dis- trict, teaching at G.A.R. and Plains Junior High School prior to her retirement in 1985. Mrs. Gregory was completing a master’s degree from New York University. She and her husband, Ted, were married 19 years. Surviving, in addition to her husband, are children, Adam Greissman, Manhattan, N.Y.; Caleb, Bossier City, La.; brother, Norbert Sinclair, Vienna, Va.; nieces, nephews and cousins. Memorial services will be con- ducted September 9. SOPHIE MILLER Sophie J. Miller of Ransom Road, Dallas, died Aug. 29, 1989, athome following a lengthy illness. Born in Swoyersville, she was the daughter of Josephine Marchewka Konopka, of West Wyoming and the late Joseph ~ Konopka. She had resided in Dal- las for the past 49 years. Mrs. Miller was a member of St. Frances Cabrini Church, Carver- ton. DAVIS Post Staff One Harveys Lake woman was transported to the hospital and another resident escaped injury after an apartment house caught fire Friday evening. Harveys Lake firefighters re- sponded to a fire at Pole 189, Lakeside Drive, Harveys Lake, about 5:30 p.m., according to Fire Chief John Martinson. The owner of the home, Helan Bennet, and her son were home at the time of the fire. Bennet, who suffers from a cardiac problem, was transported to Nesbitt Memorial Hospital for observation. Her son was not in- jured, according to Martinson. The fire was contained to the kitchen of the two apartment, single-story building. Martinson said the fire was believed to have been started by a propane gas explosion. The rest of the home suffered smoke and water dam- age. 12 firefighters from Harveys Lake responded to the fire.
