Campaign will be launched by the
Shavertown United Methodist
Church during the Worship Serv-
ices on Saturday, Aug. 26 and
Sunday, Aug. 27. Keith Atherholt,
Chairperson of the Campaign
Committee, will make the presen-
This campaign honors the
Church's 100th Anniversary of its
founding, to be celebrated in Sep-
tember 1990. It is a capital fund
drive whose goal is to raise
$100,000. The purpose is to install
a new gas-fired furnace and to
modify the Church's total heating
system for efficiency.
In addition, other improvements
to the Church buildings and prop-
erties include: air conditioning for
the sanctuary; a new garage with
storage area; cleaning and re-
pointing the external brickwork; a
campaign
barrier-free access for persons of
special needs; renewing ceilings
and painting the classrooms; and
improving the parking lots, all
recommendations from the Board
of Trustees, led by John Bunney.
The financial goal will be reached
by Advance Gifts and by pledges.
Meadows summer cookout Aug.23
The Meadows Apartments, Dallas, will hold their last summer cookout for the season (a chicken barbe-
cue) on Wednesday, Aug. 23 beginning at 12 noon.

Jackson Township notes
Dennis Bonning, and son, Den-
nis, enjoyed a vacation fishing at
Black Lake in Ontario, Canada.
Mrs. Dorothy DeLong of San
Diego, California recently visited
Mrs. Lucille Splitt of Jackson
Church Road.
Terry and Sandy Newell, and
Bob and Darlene Taney, spent a
day at Millersville.
Martin and Louise Montigney,
spent a weekend with John and

Mrs. Meryl Wagner of Follies

Mr. and Mrs. Greg Walters, of

Two Fold Club enjoyed a dinner
at the Red Rooster, Pikes Creek on
Saturday, Aug. 5. Later the 14
members attended services at
Patterson Campground.
Mr. and Mrs. Edward Nafus, of
North Carolina, are spending sev-
eral days with Mrs. Louise Lam-
oreaux of Chase.
The Nafus reunion was held in
Dover, New Jersey.
Son, David born to Lukshes
Mr. and Mrs. James Luksh of
Dallas, announce the birth of their
third child, a son, David Michael
on August 13, at the Nesbitt
Memorial Hospital, Kingston.
David has a brother, Stephen, and
a sister, Michelle.
Maternal grandparents are Mr.
and Mrs. Ted Kostrobala of Dallas.
Paternal grandparents are Sara
Luksh and the late George Luksh
of Wilkes-Barre.
Battle of the batons program
to include celebrity conductors
Battle of the Batons, the pre-
season gala to benefit the North-
eastern Pennsylvania Philhar-
monic will feature a wide selection
of popular classics Sunday, Sept.
10at 5 p.m. at the Masonic Temple
in Wilkes-Barre.
The fun-filled evening of musi-
cal entertainment will feature six
Celebrity Conductors: Richard
Biscontini, Judge Richard Cona-
boy, Frank Henry, Sondra Myers,
Brian Murray and Larry Stetler
and Master of Ceremonies The
Honorable William W. Scranton.
The program will include a variety
of selections.
General admission tickets for
the concert only are $10 and are
available by calling the Philhar-
monic at 287-1916, 654-4788.
Patron tickets (include reserved
seating, a post-concert supper
catered by Epicurian Delight, and
dance music by Brass and Ivory)
are available for $75 by calling

Gallery at the Hefft House will
sponsor holiday art competition
The Gallery at the Hefft House is
pleased to announce a Juried Fine
Art Competition of Holiday im-
ages—Christmas and Hanukkah—
to take place later this year. The
Competition will be open to all
artists of all age groups, with
awards to be presented in each of
the following six categories:
e Elementary—$50 U.S. Savings
Bond
e Junior High—$75 U.S. Sav-
ings Bond
¢ Senior High—$100 U.S. Sav-
ings Bond
(School students’ entries shall
be matted, mounted or framed)
e Adult Amateur—drawing/
painting for less than 3 yrs.
e Adult Intermediate—drawing/
painting for more than 3 yrs.
e Adult Professional—artists
who derive over 50 percent of their
livelihood from Art Education,
Commercial Art, or Fine Art.
Winners in the aforementioned
categories will receive a gift certifi-
cate for $100 at Mary Ellen's or the
Gallery at the Hefft House.
Artists are requested to have
their work ready to hang for an
exhibit and sale to be held at the
Gallery in October, with the firm
date to be announced.
All sales will be subject to a 25
percent Gallery Commission.
All artists, please note: Overall
dimensions of matted/framed
entries should not exceed 16" x ¢
20". Entries will be accepted not
later than September 30, 1989.
Pudimott, Kruger,
Swelgin families
reunion held
The 20th annual reunion of the
Kruger, Pudimott and Swelgin
families was held on Saturday, July
29 at Moon Lake.
There were 68 who attended. It
was a treat for all as the men grilled
steaks for everyone.
