Staff Writer Six skaters from the Rollaway Skating Club of Dallas have quali- fied for the United States National Championships, as aresult of their performance at the U.S. Eastern Regionals in South Amboy, New Jersey. The top three skaters in each event will compete against skaters from the nine regions in the United States for first, second or third places. Trudy Wandel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Wandel, Lake Town- ship, won a gold medal in free tyle skating to the “Out of Africa” sound- track. She also won a silver medal in sophomore ladies figure skat- ing. This is the second time Trudy has qualified for national competi- tion since she started taking les- sons at the age of three. Lisa Berger, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Berger, Kingston, won a silver medal in Junior Ladies Figures. Like Miss Wandel, sheisa student of Tony Berger, manager and instructor at the Rollaway Skate Rink. Lisa has qualified for national competition seven of the nine years she has been skating, making the top 10 five years and making the finals twice. George Manzoni, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Manzoni, Lehman, won won a silver medal in Freestyle skating. It will be the first time for him to enter national competition since taking lessons for approxi- mately one year. Franmar Kopko, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Kopko, Harveys Lake, also qualified for nationals in Ladies Freshman Figures. This is her second year to qualify for national competition, last year placing in the top five at Troy, Michigan. Mullen, Holcomb and Kopko will advance to the Junior Olympic National Championships in Fay- etteville, North Carolina.
