So ee 4 14 The Dallas Post Dallas, PA Wednesday, July 19, 1989 Little League playoffs Back Mountain advances with 18- 5 win A 19 hit attack led Back Moun- tain American to an 18-5 victory over Edwardsville/Larksville Monday, and advanced the local team toa Wednesday meeting with undefeated Hanover. Rich Butcofski and Adam Hoover combined for two-hit pitch- ing, and Butcofski added a grand slam hone run to the offensive cause. ~ Mike Biglone and Aaron Gingo also homered for Back Mountain, and the locals added three doubles as well. Hanover stayed in the winners’ bracket by topping Kingston 6-5. Back Mountain is in the losers’ procs. so must win all remain- games. AMERICAN DEFEATES DEFENDING CHAMPS Tim Waslick's two-run homer in the fourth inning broke open a 3-3 tie, and the Back Mountain American All Stars went onto beat defending champion Nanticoke 9- 3 Friday. Waslick was also the winning pitcher, going 3 2/2 in- nings, giving up five hits and one earned run while striking out four. Carlo Santarelli was on base when Waslick hit his roundtrip- per, and had two hits on the night. Mike Viglone and Rich Butcofski had three hits each, and Aaron Gingo and Jeff Kunkle had two apiece. 9-0 LOSS DROPPED BACK MOUNTAIN TO LOSER’S BRACKET On Wednesday, the Back Moun- tain team had dropped to the los- ers bracket when they lost 9-0 to Hanover, whose power at the plate overwhelmed the Back Mountain boys. Bill Weidner was the winning pitcher in that game, giving up only two hits and striking out eight in going the six innings. Hanover took a first inning 4-0 lead helped by Tony Padden’s three RBI home run. Weidner also helped run up the score by driving out an RBI double and Nice of Hanover also hit a double. Pete Carlo and Joe Doran also knocked out home runs for the winning team. PITTSTON ELIMINATES HARVEYS LAKE Harveys Lake was eliminated from play Wednesday when they were defeated 2-1 by Pittston in an extra inning game. Pitchers Brian Smith and Ryan Picchi went all the way with both boys doing out- standing work on the mound. Smith gave up four hits and struck out six and losing pitcher Picchi gave up only three hits and struck out seven. The score was tied at 1- 1 until the seventh inning when Scott Appel walked, stole second and went to third base on a ground ball. Appel scored the winning run when he came home on a bunt by Danny Stella. The Harveys Lake team scored first in the fourth inning when Mike Adamshik drove out one of his two doubles to send home Jason Wilson. Jason Klush hit a single, stole second and third but was thrown out when he tried to steal home. Pittston tied the score in their half of the fourth inning when Quinn walked, stole second and third and scored when Ryan Walsh ° hit the ball to the Lake's first base- man and Quinn beat out the throw to the home plate. Adamshik had a perfect night at the plate for Harveys Lake with three hits in three at-bats. Adopt-A-Pet Tiger is a domestic short hair cat, a tri-colored female only one year old. She has been well trained by her previous owner who couldn't keep Tiger because she has had to move and isn't allowed to keep her cat. Tiger is house-broken and is an excellent pet for either a young or old owner. She is looking for some- one to stop in and take her home with them, someone to love her and give her a good home.
