Dallas Franklin's becomes Friendly's Li By CHARLOT M. DENMON Staff Writer The former Franklin's restau- rant located at the intersection of Routes 415 and 309, Dallas, looks much the same on the outside but step inside and it has a totally new appearance. A grand opening is scheduled for this weekend. The local restaurant is the first Franklin's in the Wyoming Valley to become Friendly's. As in most Friendly’s customers are now greeted with 25 varieties of ice cream and two flavors of frozen yogurt packed in large cannisters protected by the new, high white counters in the front of the res- taurant. The ice cream and yogurt are available in cones or sundaes, and in fancy ice cream desserts as well as take home containers in half gallons and variety packs. Manager Will Morgan is still there to greet old customers and new faces who opt to try the Friendly's they have heard so much about. Most of the former employees are also there to serve customers, guaranteeing even better service than in the past. There is a complete menu of breakfast, lunch and dinner spe- cialties, some of them the former Franklin's favorites as well as many new items customers will find delicious. There are some noticeable changes, such as the counter in the front being gone, but the popular salad bar is still in the back and the famous breakfast buffet is still served. Friendly’s is a family type res- taurant, serving good food with good service. It will be open Sun- day through Thursday, 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Friday and Satur- day, 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. 1 "The Merchant of Venice' slated for Misericordia's Theatre-On-The-Green ~ By CHARLOT M. DENMON Staff Writer College Misericordia will pres- ent its second Theatre-On-The- Green, July 20-23 with evening performances on the campus lawn. Based on last year's perform- ance of ‘A Midsummer Night's Dream’, with a cast of professional and local actors which proved to be a tremendous success, the col- lege received an award from the Pennsylvania Council for the Humanities for partial funding of this year's production, ‘The Mer- chant of Venice’. Shakespeare's ‘The Merchant of Venice’ is a play that contains ele- ments of tragedy but it has a comic ending that give the impression that everything works for the best. The plot is based on two tales, the one the story of a suitor who can only marry if he successfully solves a riddle and the second, the story of a bond between two people which they cannot keep. Shakespeare's dialogue through- out the play focuses on justice, mercy and friendship. Parents are encouraged to bring children to the play and enjoy the classic in a relaxed atmosphere. Seating will be in chairs or on the ground and light refreshments will be available for purchasing before the play or during intermission. Diane Ushinski is chairperson, who will supervise the activities of the community committee which is focusing on fundraising and publicity. Theatre-On-The-Green is made possible through the generosity of corporate or community donors.
