Twenty seven girls, five from the Back Mountain, came out for the final tryouts, but Poynton was the only local player to survive the cut. Lake-Lehman guidance counselor Florence Finn is the games’ soft- ball coordinator. The girls who made the team will have two practices at a date to be set by the coaches. Poynton has been a starter on the Dallas High School varsity team since she was a freshman. In her first year she played in various positions in the infield and outfield and pitched three of the varsity games. She finished her sopho- more year with a 19-2 record and this past year ended with a 12-2 record; sitting out two games due to an injury. She has a three-year record of 34-4. Laura, who will be a senior in the Fall, has played Little League hardball and senior softball since she was eight years of age. This summer she is a member of the Amateur Softball Association fast pitch team, but has been unable to play to date due to the inclement weather.
