Sara Barakat gives birth to twins Sara Barakat, formerly of Dallas and now living in Silver Spring, Md., and Michael Northridge an- nounce the birth of their twins, Rachel Conley Northridge and Samuel Barakat Northridge. The babies were born May 4, in Wash- ington, D.C. and weighed 3 lbs. 15 oz. and 4 lbs. 5 oz. respectively. These are the couple's first chil- dren. Ms. Barakat is the daughter of Anees and Barbara Barakat, 41 Sterling Avenue, Dallas. She works for the law firm of Fleischman and Walsh in Washington, D.C. Her husband works as a hazardous waste enforcement attorney for U.S. Environmental Protection Agency headquarters. The maternal grandparents now have a total of six grandchildren. | ake association plans plans meeting June 25 The Harveys Lake Protective Association will hold a summer dinner meeting at Pier III, Sunset on Sunday, June 25 at 6:30 p.m. Highlights include a discussion of past accomplishments as well as an outline of future goals. Guest speaker will be John J. Levitsky who will address the ecological impact of the duck population on Harveys Lake. Members are re- minded that 1989 dues are pay- able now. Exhibit of paintings by June MacCloskey at United Penn An exhibit of watercolor paint- ings by well-known Dallas artist June MacCloskey will be on dis- play in the lobby of the United Penn Bank, Main Street, Dallas, throughout the month of June. Depicting a variety of subjects, the exhibit of watercolors includes historical scenes of the Wilkes- Barre square and old Dallas, as well as shore scenes from Maine and Cape Cod. June MacCloskey has studied painting with Alice Welsh Jenkins, Ann Parkhurst, and Sue Hand as well as studying in art classes and workshops through the Wyoming Valley Art League and College Misericordia. She is a member of the Cider Painters of America, the Art Gallery of College Misericordia, Wyoming Valley Art League, and the Back Mountain Collectors Group. ' MacCloskey owned an advertis- ing agency for over 30 years and served as a consultant for national agencies out of New York and Phila- delphia. After her retirement, she began painting in earnest. For the past 50 years, she has traveled to Cape Cod, and these trips provide many ideas for her paintings. MacCloskey has exhibited her paintings and collections with the Cider Painters, the Art League, the Plymouth Historical Society and the Dennison House. The exhibit, which will continue through June, may be viewed in the United Penn Bank lobby dur- ing regular business hours. Two Honor Stars crowned On May 21, at the Emmanuel Assembly of God Church, Harveys Lake, Tanya Bixby and Tina Giarratano were crowned Honor Stars. - This is the highest honor a Missionette can achieve. The program Stairway to the Stars is named after four women of the Bible. Tanya was crowned by Missionette Sponsor Kathy Bixby and Tina was crowned by Missionette Coordinator Kathy Lam-. oreaux. The charge was given to them by Pastor L.D. Reed. The Rainbows, Prims and Juniors presented them with roses and the W.M. ladies gave them a missionette Honor Star bracelet. A solor was sung by Denise Gordon. Following the ceremony a reception was given in their honor.
