The concert “Fourtieth Celebra- tion of Sound”, will be held at the Houlihan-McLean Cultural Cen- ter, Jefferson Avenue and Mul- berry Street, Scranton. Sharon Hudacek earns _ doctorate from Columbia School of Nursing Alumni Association honors Kunec Ethel Decker Kunec, RN, Dal- las, was honored during the Wilkes- Barre General Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association's Annual Homecoming recently. Decker Kunec is a 1939 graduate of the school. A Wilkes-Barre General Hospi- tal employee for 28 years, Decker Kunec retired in 1985. She re- ceived a corsage from the alumni association president, Carol Cas- tellani. General's School of Nursing, which graduated more than 2,000 nurses and existed for 97 years, officially closed its doors in 1974. Dr. Mechell to lead choral concert Sunday Dr. Harry A. Mechell, of Dallas, Associate Professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities at College Misericordia, is one of three conductors who will participate in the “Choral Celebration” to be held June 4 at 7 p.m. at the United Methodist Church on Wyoming Avenue in Forty Fort. Others con- ducting choirs in the concert are Myron Leet of Wilkes-Barre and Gene Kelleher of Forty Fort. Dr. Mechell holds a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education, and a Master's Degree in Choral Con- ducting from Temple University. His Doctorate in Choral Conduct- ing was earned at the University of Illinois. Dr. Mechell has studied under some of the nation's leading conductors, including Dr. Harold A. Decker, Robert E. Page, and Helmuth Rilling. Specializing in the performance of sacred works with chorus and orchestra, Dr. Mechell has worked many years with both high school choruses and various church choirs. Currently, he is Choral Director at Church of Christ Unit- ing, in Kingston. Ms. Hudacek, of Shavettoul, who is assistant director of nurs- ing at the community college, earned a doctorate in education with an emphasis on administra- tive and proflessorial nursing. A member of the LCCC staff since 1982, Hudacek began as a nursing instructor and was then promoted to assistant director of nursing in 1985. In her present position, Hudacek is responsible for budgeting and financial deci- sion making, grant writing, hospi- tal cooperative agency relations, satellite program planning, cur- riculum planning, and community affairs. Hudacek also handles profes- sional teaching of nursing issues and trends, is a lecturer for the college’s lecture and community education series, and is a clinical nursing instructor for the college's R.N. Re-Entry Program. She also serves as a member of the College's Presidential Committee of Aca- demic Excellence, and was respon- sible for the development and implementation of the college's associate degree satellite nursing program offered in Susquehanna County. Hudacek earned a B.S.N. and M.S.N. from College Misericordia, and a M.Ed. in Nursing from Teach- John Vaida will conduct choral concert Saturday gin at 8 p.m. and tickets are avail- able at the door. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students and senior citizens. This concert will mark 40 years of fine entertainment for area music-lovers by this outstanding choral group.
