DENMON Staff Writer Their distance runners aided the Dallas Mountaineers in taking their second consecutive District 2 =: title in the events held last Friday ot at the Wilkes-Barre Memorial Sta- dium. In a close, exciting meet, the Mountaineers were down 52-31 halfway through the events but the strong running of Hugh Mundy, Steve Oliver, Walt Fader and Jared Samuel pulled the Dallas boys up to finish 87-80 in front of second | place GAR. Mount Jim O'Donnell’'s second place finish in the pole vault gave the Dallas team the icing on the cake. The Grenadiers who went 1-5 during the season came into the in the sprints and jumps events. Then the big distance runners from Dallas moved in and when they took first, second, and third in the 3200 meter run that proved the turning point for the Mountain- eers. Walt Fader finished first, Steve Oliver second and Jared Samuel third to pick up the needed points. Mountaineer Hugh Mundy took four gold medals while breaking Knight Giro Hall's 1.54.1 record in the 800m run and tieing Meyers Mark Merlie's 4:17.2 record in the 1600m run. Mundy ran the 800m in 1:54.0. He also ran on the win- ning 1600 and 3200 meter relay teams. : Dallas went into districts handi- capped having lost some of their sprinters and jumpers early in the season and their pole vaulter break- ing his stick the week before the districts. 3 Dallas track wins second District 2 title Ep The top three runners in the AA events will advance to the state competition at Shippensburg. Back Mountain winners in the AA events were Dallas 3200m re- lay; Hugh Mundy 800m run, 1600m run; Walt Fader 3200m, run; Dallas 1600m relay team. Second place winners were Ed Radzinski (LL) 1600m run; Steve Oliver 3200m run; Jim O'Donnell, pole vault. Third place winners were Walt Fader 1600m run; Shawn Clark (LL) 400m dash; Jared Samuel 3200m run. Hunter ed camp still has room available The Pennsylvania Game Com- mision announces that a limited number of vacancies still exist for their Hunter Education Camp. The camp, for youngsters ages 12-15 will be held during the week of June 17, 1989 - June 24, 1989. Two sessions will be held at the Bear Creek Camp and Conference site, Bear Creek, Pennsylvania. Session one will begin on Satur- day, June 17 and conclude on peace. Tuesday, June 20, 1989. Session two will begin on Wednesday June 21 and conclude on Saturday, June 24, 1989. The cost of the camp will be $55.00.
