History buffs will find History of Dallas, written by Daniel Waters, a longtime native of Dallas, a con- cise and very informative book about the area. Waters wrote the book in 1967, at the suggestion of the late How- ard Risley. The book contains a great deal of information about the area; the first settlers, the schools, the newcomers, the new comforts, new tools, new people. It contains accounts of religion, drinking, hotels, amusements, early fairs, physicians, transpor- tation, cemeteries and much, much more! Unfortunately, the number of these books is limited, and when they're gone there will be no more, for Waters had them copyrighted and the last printing is almost exhausted. The Dallas Post has only 20 of these books, the last there are to be had and because they appear to be the only history of Dallas they are valuable to those who want to know more about the area in which they live. These final copies will be sold to the first 20 persons, who request them for $10.00 each. The money from the sale of the books will be given to the Back Mountain Me- morial Library, one of the proper- ties dear to Waters' heart. Don't delay, don't hesitate— these are the last of the books that Daniel Waters had published in 1967. They include a supplement of 1967 and 1968 events which Waters wrote later. Methodist Women will meet at Shavertown church The United Methodist Women of the Wilkes-Barre District will hold their annual Spring Meeting on Friday, April 21 at the Shavertown United Methodist Church in Shav- ertown. The theme of the evening will be “Roles Women Play”. Registration will be at 7 p.m. and the resource table will be available at this time. Several skits offering humorous and thought-provoking looks at women and their uses of time will be presented beginning at 7:30 p.m. Closing refreshments will be provided by the Shavertown United Methodist Women's group. No reservations are necessary for this meeting. Foster grandparents needed in The Foster Grandparent Pro- grambegan in 1965 and continues to grow and develop.
