The weekly program, produced and hosted by Dan Evans, will air Sundays at 8 p.m. Evans, a long- time 90 FM on-air personality, has produced such series as “Weekend Jazz” and “For the Folks Down Home.” The first hour os “Swing Street Jazz” will be devoted exclusively to the use of a 4,000-album jazz col- lection donated by Michael Adams of Overland Park, Kansas. Adams learned of WVIA-FM as result of the holiday program “Christmas Music: The Jazz Feeling,” written and produced by Andrew Sordoni and recorded at the 90 FM studios. The program is carried by National Public Radio stations throughout the country and features the art- ists and genre which most appeals to Adams. Correspondence be- tween Adams and Sordoni devel- oped into a friendship which re- sulted in the gift to 90 FM. The album donation, referred to as The Adams Collection, contains many valuable and rare record- ings. The gift includes albums by most of the major jazz artists, such as Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Oscar Peterson, Louis Armstrong, Eddie Condon, Ella Fitzgerald, Mr. Don jazz show Lionel Hampton, Woody Herman, Billie Holiday, Jay McShann and Bob Wilber. The donation estab- lishes WVIA-FM as one of the major repositories of jazz recordings in the country. “Swing StreetJazz" according to Evans, will feature adifferent theme each week, including tributes to various artists and programs on" particular styles of jazz. The series’ premiere program on January 8 will present excerpts fromrare and. out-of-print recordings from The Adams Collection. This music sampler will offer listeners a vari- ety of music that is no longer avail- able through commercial record- ings. ri pe Sp A . Sr rR AE — ng A
