Kington Twp. winter parking Kingston Township Police Chief Paul M. Sabol would like to remind residents that the Winter Parking ‘Ordinance became effective on November 1, 1988 and will be in effect through March 31, 1989. Under this ordinance residents are prohibited from parking vehicles on township streets between the hours of 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. each day. ~ Theordinance is designed to keep the township streets open and clear so that snow removal measures can be effectively undertaken by the Road De ent. The Chief urges all township residents to cooperate in complying with the Township Ordinance. Children learn about asthma 4 Penn State Veterans blood drive The Penn State Wilkes-Barre Veterans Club recently held their annual Blood Drive on campus in association with the Wyoming Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross. Wilkes-Barre General Hospital's Education Department recently held an Asthma Class for children ages 4-12 and their families. The two-hour program, based on materials from the American Lung Association and other sources, is designed to help families in learning more about asthma, a health problem which affects about 1.5 million children in the U.S. Participating families receive “Super Stuff” activity packages for the child with asthma as well as printed educational materials for the parents. Interfaith Resource Center to sponsor Merton Retreat The Interfaith Resource Center for Peace and Justice will sponsor an afternoon of study and reflection on the life of Thomas Merton, the peace monk, on Saturday, December 10, from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Mercy Center, on the campus of College Misericordia, Dallas. | “Discerning the Monk (Center of Solitude) and the Peacemaker Within” will commemorate the 20th anniversary of Merton's death and explore one of the major themes of his life: the complementary roles of ‘action and contemplation. The retreat will include a videoon Merton's life, along with prayer, discussion, and a monk's coffee break. Adopt-a-pet King is an eight-week-old Shepherd Mix puppy looking for someone to love her and take her home. The young black and tan puppy was found in Kingston where someone had evidently dropped her off. King has been wormed and is a wll-behaved puppy for such a young age. Soccer Club plans banquet The November meeting of the Dallas High School Soccer Club was held recently. President Rich Ursiak presided. Among the items on the agenda were the annual banquet to be held on December 4 at Genetti’s Motor Inn, and the team’s participation in the Gloucester International Soccer Tournament in Ottawa, Canada. Jackets will be presented to all freshmen and junior members of the soccer team and officers for 1989 will be installed at the banquet. Guest speaker will be Jim Miller, sportscaster from WBRE TV and Coach John McCafferty will comment on the 1988 season. Reservations may be made by contacting Mrs. Kate Swain, ‘chairperson. Plans for the tournament were also discussed with arrangements for the event being made by Mr. and Mrs. David Morris. Coach McCafferty is preparing team rostersand willenter a team in the 18and under division along with a team in the 16 and under bracket. The tournament is scheduled for July 13-17 and the soccer club is planning several fundraisers to assist in financing the four-day event.
