2 The Dallas Post Dallas, PA Wednesday, November 30, 1988 Obituaries MARGARET HUGHES Margaret (Peg) Hughes, 75, of Sutton Road, Shavertown, died Nov. 24, 1988 at her home, following an illness. Born in Edwardsville, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Margaret Morgan Francis. Mrs. Hughes resided in Jackson Township for the past 20 years, and before that, had resided in Dallas Township for 14 years. She was a graduate of the former Edwardsville High School and was _ alsoagraduate of Bloomsburg State Teachers College. Beforeretiringin 1974, she taught elementary education for 18 years in the Dallas Area School District. Earlier she had taught secondary education for 15 years in the former Edwardsville School District. Surviving are her husband, G. Donald Hughes; and nephew, Donald Francis, of Shavertown. Private funeral services were conducted. Memorial contributions may be made to the Heart Association of Northeastern Pennsylvania, 71 N. Franklin St., Wilkes-Barre, 18701. Citizens’ (continued from page 1) she was first elected in 1979. She was a member of Reading City Council from 1976 to 1979. A graduate of Indiana University, she resides in Reading with her husband, Barry E. Miller and son Joshua. The December 5 meeting is the third in a series of open meetings of the Council. The Steering Commit- tee of the Council, made up of 24 members, will present the proposed by-laws for approval at the meeting. Copies of the proposed by-laws have been placed in 12 libraries in the Back Mountain for review by interested residents. The Post has also published excerpts from them on page 5 of this issue. The libraries include Dallas Elementary School, Lehman-Jackson Elementary, Ross Township Elementary, Lake- Lehman High School, Gate of Heaven, Mercy Center kindergar- ten, College Misericordia library and Back Mountain Memorial Library. Once by-laws are approved by the citizens at the meeting, election of officers will be held. The group then plans to hold another meeting Karen Miller on January 18, at which time com- mittees that will address specific issues will be formed. The steering committee of volun- teers has met regularly to plan the structure of the Citizens' Council. Once a board of directors is voted, the steering committee will disband. John Gager opens brokerage office here A new brokerage office, Gager and Associates, was opened recently in the Back Mountain by John F. Gager, registered investment broker. Gager, a native of the Back Mountain, left Thompson & McKinnon to open his own office October 15 in the Hidden Acres Office Complex on Route 415, Dallas. A resident of Orchard View Terrace, Gager is associated with First Affiliated Securities, Inc. (FAS), a subsidiary of Bekhor International Group Inc. | He deals in traditional investment products such as stocks, bonds, and investment funds. Gager said his office discounts commissions across the board. “We do everything the wire house type companies do,” Gager said. “We are looking for any type of clients; we tailor the product to the client. Since we are independently owned and operated we don't have the pressures associated with bigger houses.” Gager explained that his firm takes quotes off a satellite dish ~ located on the property and can handleaccounts just as fast as large brokerages can. He believes the growth in the Back Mountain merits a business such as his.
