Christmas show in works to support Sisters of Mercy “Peace and Joy,” an Irish Christ- mas show supporting the works of the Sisters of Mercy, will bring Ireland's “greatest tenor” Frank Pat- terson to the F.M. Kirby Center in Wilkes-Barre on Wednesday, Dec. 7, at 8 p.m. Patterson, who will appear on stage with his wife, Eily O'Grady, and their son Eanan, will be joined in this benefit performance by two Back Mountain musical groups - the New Dallas Community Singers and the Irem Temple String Band. This Christmas production is one of a series of special events planned as fundraisers for the Sisters of Mercy, who first came to Wilkes-Barre in 1875 to work among the poor, the sick and the uneducated - and who now need help meeting the spiraling costs of retirement within their own community. Due to a decline in the number of active religious, the low stipends. received during long years of service, = and considering their median age is now 64, (with 39 percent over the age of 70) the sisters must now rely on those they once served to help them care for their retired members. Tickets for the holiday perform- ance, listed at $10 and $12, are now available through the Mercy Devel- opment Office at 675-2048, or the Kirby Box Office, 826-1100. Although the Sisters of Mercy in the Province of Scranton are now serving in 18 of the United States as well as in Guyana, their greatest numbers can be found in the Wilkes- Barre-Scranton area. Corporate and administrative offices of the prov- ince are located in the Back Moun- tain at the Mercy Province Center in Dallas. i» nt {= 4 at effl ouse | 104 ‘E. Overbrook Rd.
