Misericordia names two new admissions counselors College Misericordia recently hired two Admissions Counselors to strengthen ‘the college's recruiting efforts on the eastern Seaboard. Tony Ray Langston and Mary Lou Schilling will recruit students from throughout Pennsylvania, as well as surrounding states south to Vir- ginia. Through high school fairs and other college programs, they will be responsible for maintaining the Dallas Band Tournament Sunday The Dallas Band Boosters Asso- ciation will present its 5th Annual Tournament of Bands Competition on Sunday, Sept. 25, at 1 p.m. atthe high school stadium. Bands from Western Wayne, Valley View, Ha- nover Area, Mid-Valley, Pittston Lake-Lehman, Hazleton, Wyoming Area and GAR will com- pete for trophies. The Dallas Band will appear in exhibition. Tickets may be purchased at the gate. Admicsion is $3.00 for adults and $1.50 for students and Senior Citi- zens. Refreshments will be’ avail- able. ’ college’s optimum enrollment. Langston holds a bachelor of science degree in marketing from King's College and resides at Har- veys Lake. Schilling holds a bachelor of arts - degree in Spanish with a minor in classical languages from Susquehanna University. She cur- rently resides in Kingston. Nancy Grimm begins student teaching Nancy Grimm, Dallas, is one of 19 Wilkes education majors begin- ning their student teaching require- ments this fall at area elementary and high schools. The students, under the direction of Associate Professor Edwin L. Johnson, will be satisfying their major and educa- tional prerequisites and are student teaching to gain practical experi- ence while fulfilling teacher certifi- cation requirements for the State of Pennsylvania. Wilkes students eligible for teacher certification must have a cumulative grade point average of 2.3 and recommendations from the major department, the Dean of Student Affairs and the Teacher Education Committee. - Sr. Finley to get Sister of Mercy award Sr. M. Siena Finley, RSM, will be the first recipient of College Misericordia’s Sister of Mercy Award. The award will be presented to the Dallas resident on Saturday, Oct. 1, during the college's Homecoming activities. Sr. Siena has been a faculty member at College Misericordia for the past 15 years, however her in- volvement in the field of education spans four decades. After years of lecturing and making public ap- pearances, Sr. Siena has developed a reputation as one of the top eth- icists of the Mid-Atlantic region. In 1987, Sr. Siena was instru- mental in developing the first ethics institute in the area. The Ethics Institute of Northeast Pennsylvania was established to increase under- standing of contemporary ethical issues in business, education, gov- ernment, politics, health care and social services. Through lecture- workshop series, conferences, an ethical resource center and con- tinuing education programs the institute provides a non-partisan forum to exchange ideas and ex- piore major ethical issues in society. A 1951 alumna of College Miseri- cordia, Sr. Siena also holds a mas- ters degree from Fordham Univer- sity. She has pursued courses in ethics at Dartmouth, Princeton and Catholic University. Last year, she was awarded the Humanitarian of the Year Award by the Wyoming Valley Interfaith Council. Among her board memberships are the board of directors of the Mercy Care Unit and the board of directors of Mercy Hospital.
