The gathering took place at the home of Stanley Charnick, who is sharing RENEW coordinator responsibilities in that parish with Jean Brennan. Father Joseph Meighan, pastor of ‘St. Therese’s in Shavertown, cele- brated the Mass and invited the other participants to reflect with him on that tree that symbolizes the RENEW program and the pos- sibilities it has for growth at St. Therese’s. Brennan said she and her hus- band, Joseph have had the oppor- tunity to visit other dioceses that have gone through the RENEW process. “In one church in the Diocese of Orlando, Florida, we knew immediately that there was something special about the people by the way that they related to one another. They were like family and their liturgies were more meaning- ful because of the full participation of the faithful. Also, in the Diocese of Evansville, Indiana, where my Under the big top Evangelical Church of Christ, Dallas, recently held their Vacation Bible School teach- ing the Bible to children of the area, who attended, through the use of various animal figures depicting good and evil. The Bible School used the theme ‘Under The Big Top’ to hold the children’s interest. Pup- pets, a gorilla, and animals such those above were used during the classes. This has been the most successful part of other movements, slike Mar- riage Encounter and Cursillo. With RENEW, however, the common light will be our parish community.
